Hi all,
What good is having the extra oil reservoir? If you have oil in there and don't use it, does it go bad?

When we change the oil we let the oil in the reservoir in as we refill and then refill the reservoir. That way we have the reserve if we need it and keep it fresh.
I believe the reservoir was an option and may not be on all the coaches.

Tammy, I had the reservoir on two Intrigues I owned, AND NEVER USED IT. If I remember correctly, it was a $400 option which was on both coaches when I bought them. Thank goodness my present coach is without the reservoir. I did, however, follow the same procedure you describe when changing oil.

My posts about my coolant leak bought up another subject.
I had a service while in to fix the coolant leak. I have an oil reservoir fitted to the motorhome. (Factory fitted I assume). This reservoir has never changed in level or oil color. I never worried about it because I always used the dip stick. However the mechanic showed me the valve underneath that I had never noticed. It was closed. Always has been.
Does anyone else have this oil reservoir and do you use it? Do I need to have it turn on? Why is it there?

That is extra engine oil. Fill the reservoir and when the engine oil is low, turn the valve and it drains oil into the engine to bring up the engine oil level. It is a clean way to carry extra engine oil. Have the same thing on our 97' Magna. Not sure it is needed much. Depends if the engine is using oil or not. I think it would be wise to cycle the oil in the reservoir. At oil change time, use what is in the reservoir and add new to the reservoir. Oil in a metal can will have some condensation. Not sure I will use ours at all. Still thinking on it.

The oil reservoir is there in case you need to add oil to the engine, without having to schlep around several oil containers. If your dip stick indicates two quarts down, open the handle on the tube below the reservoir and watch the level. The oil goes directly into the crankcase. In two years I have used about four quarts out of it - when it gets a gallon down I buy some oil when I fill up, and top up the tank for the next time.

Jeez, I am having a rough time tonight. 3rd try at posting this.
Anybody know how the engine oil reservoir works? Has a switch, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
