Title: HWH Pump Intermittently Working/Not Working

I have a 2005 Country Coach Magna with an HWH leveling and hydraulic slide mechanism. For the past several weeks, I am having some intermittent trouble activating the slides (with both extension and retraction). Here is the overview:

1. I make sure I'm parked, air brake engaged, and level.
2. I activate the key switch for the slide panel (front or rear)
3. I get the solid yellow light indicating all is well and ready for deployment or retraction
4. I depress the extend or retract button, at which point I should hear the whirring sound of the pump

However, its seems to be hit or miss. When it doesn't work, no slides (front or back) work. Sometimes if I give it 10-20 minutes, it will work... but then mysteriously stop working sometimes minutes laters. I've checked power to the pump relays - solid connections, strong power (and I run it with engine idling). If I bypass the solenoids with a 4 gauge battery wire, the pump fires immediately (just tapped the wires to check for a bad pump - not to operate slides). So doesn't seem to be bad pump.

Curious if anyone has encountered this. Could it be a bad solenoid (there appear to be two attached to the pump)? I always get a solid click in the HWH bay when the switch is depressed, but that only sometimes translates into activating the pump.

Any help is appreciated!
Mike

Are you positive that the leveling system is done when you try to deploy the slides? Or, is the 'Excess Slope' warning light on when you try to move the slides?

We also have the HWH air leveling and three HWH hydraulic slides. If the leveling system is still working (maybe your air pump is getting weak and it is taking a long time to achieve level), the HWH system will not let you move the slides.

There may be other reasons for just something to check.

Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level?

Had this problem w/ 2005 CC Allure 470 #31177. "Excessive slope" light was illuminated which knocks out the slides. Even if you turn off the leveling system it seems to remember the out of level even though the light isn't illuminated on the control panel. Moved coach a few feet, re-leveled and all's well. Maybe this will work for you. 8Birds

I suspect my rocker switch is OK since I've got the same problem front and back panels (and therefore two separate rocker switches controlling front vs. rear slides). When it quits neither panel/switch triggers the pump... then magically it begins working 10-20 minutes later. Assuming you are referencing the rocker switch to extend/retract slides on the inside panel.

I'm positive I'm level each time I've tried. I have even cycled through leveling a couple of times to double check. The yellow indicator on the slide panel that the slides are ready, system is level, etc. is lit, and the level indicator on the HWH on the dash indicates I'm level. When it begins functioning again (randomly) I haven't had to relevel (i.e., that hasn't fixed it). Still perplexed....

I have not - but will do that next. I know it was checked a few months ago but I will check again. Thanks.

Check pump ground connection?

I had a similar problem recently - caused by a poor ground connection.

My pump body is grounded via a couple mounting bolts apparent from underneath the compartment floor. These mounting/grounding bolts were corroded to the point the pump would intermittently fail depending on weather and temperature variations.

I eventually attached a separate ground wire to another mounting point on the pump body.
