I am on I95 just south of Jacksonville Fl in a rest area, as I got onto the exit ramp I saw a cloud if white smoke and noticed that I had lost power steering. Dexron fluid sprayed all over the engine compartment and on the toad. Appears to be a major blowout of one the hoses but I cannot determine where the damage is. I called coach net, they said since I am in a safe place they will not tow me until tomorrow when they can coordinate the repair with a service center. Does anyone know of a reputable service center to fabricate and replace the hose, in the Kacksonville, Fl area?

This is the 1st time in 16 years of ownership that I have been stuck and it's not bad get ticking stuck in a rest area as opposed to getting stuck on the side of the road.

Thanks in advance.

Could you have a companion peak in the engine compartment, while you start the engine, to perhaps spot the area of the leak?

Tried that but it was dripping from every place due to being sprayed and it is too low to run now, manual says not to run it when the reservoir is empty. In the morning I will hopefully get towed to a service center. Problem might be a blown hydraulic pump and I thought it was a hose but cannot fin a hose with damage.

Thanks

I had the same problem a year ago. Lots of steam and fluid all over the engine compartment. It turned out to be a split in the small 3/8in or 1/2in hose from the thermostat housing area to the coolant tank. It was split on the side facing the engine so I could not see it unitl my wife started the engine and revved it up a bit. The cause of all the steam was because it was spraying on the turbo and exhaust manifold. The hose was not rated for coolant. CC had used hose for fuel lines.

Thanks, but I lost the steering fluid, Dexron II, not coolant.

Same thing happened to us. Small split underside of the hose. We replaced all the hoses with proper ones.

I had a leak like this years ago. The seal of the hydraulic pump for the radiator fan seal failed. Transmission fluid everywhere. Had to replace pump and was told was not cost effective to repair. Check the reservoir for fluid. This unit will hold 4 to 5 quarts of fluid. This fluid also is used for your power steering. The mechanic crawled under the radiator area while I started engine and then turned on air conditioner which activated the fan, fluid flowed out of the seal area.

Just something else to look at.

Had similar problems with high pressure leak from hose frayed from the Hydraulic pump off of the transmission. A hose had rubbed and frayed on the surface which I only found when I cut my finger on the inside exposed metal braid. This was a high pressure leak which leaked several gallons in 5 miles of road travel. The small line had fittings on each end and was quickly manufactured by a local shop. Also had hydraulic (ATF) fluid covering the whole engine compartment so there was no way to trace the leak back to the source.

The steering pump to bulkhead, hose is identified as item number 9 on the IPB in the manual, 29 inch 1/2 inch hose. It had chaffed due to being mounted so that the engine caused it to vibrate against the frame or engine. Cost of repair was very high based on it being a 29 inch hose. Hose was built at a local Pirek hose shop, Modicare Mobile service charged $337 for the hose and 5 1/2 hours of labor, they were on scene or getting the hose for a total of 3 1/2 hours. Total cost was $1495., not sure if that is fair charge or not. But, Cummins couldn't work me in until the following week which would have been a lot more aggravating and I would have to be towed which I didn't want to happen. I preferred to have a mobile service come out at my expense rather than have Coach Net tow me to a place where I would be sitting for a week. All in all it worked out well as the failure occurred just as I was pulling into a rest area so we were in a safe place to wait for the repair. Check those hoses to see if you have any that are rubbing against anything which might cause them to fail.

Jock, the reservoir on mine holds 16 quarts and it is for both steering and engine cooling fan.
