Hi All,

I could use your help, maybe somebody has had this experience; every time we step on our entry steps they squeak somewhat loudly; I've already lubed them with white lithium grease - they slide better. My first impression is they may need to have new slides installed or maybe just adjusted. I'm hoping that maybe all I need to do is buy new tracks and bolt them on? Before I climb under there, I thought I'd see if there's any experience or wisdom on repairs or rebuilding the slide tracks?

Thanks in advance,

I has a similar problem with my coach, 2001 Affinity.

My remedy was to spray WD40 behind the vertical part of the top step where it met the horzontal part of the bottom step. Not easy to do..... The metal is bent such that the vertical part of the top step rubs against the back of the lower step. This works for about a few months, then I need to respray. A thicker lube might provide a more long-lasting solution.

Good luck.

I suspect the noises that you hear are caused by stop bolts under the steps. I understand that the bolts originally had a rubber contact pad. Over time the rubber is warn off and that results in metal-to-metal "noise".

Just so happens that Kwikee makes a lube especially designed for the steps:

Amazon.com: Kwikee Products Co 905069000 Kwiklube Spray Grease 11 OZ: Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/Kwikee-Products-905069000-Kwiklube-Grease/dp/B000BGOI92)

Works great. Goes on as a liquid to get into the nooks and crannies then dries to a sticky grease.

My Steps would squeak when the ruber pad'sthat hit a narrow cross bar in the back of the steps. They are mounted wrong. there is another hole lower down that will some in contact with the step stop. The narrow bar splits the ruber pad and makes the metal sqeak. If you remont the step stop lower down the problem is solved.

Hope this helps.

For an explanation of the cause and how to correct look in the files section for a file titled "Ltr to kwikee".

Bo lee has the solution to the squeaky steps. The rubber stoppers need to be moved to the lower hole. This fixed my sqeak problem to.

When the rubber pads wore through, and unevenly, on our coach, I just went in and removed the stop bolts and, lo and behold, that noise stopped. End of story? Not quite. Whilst last in Junction City, I told Kevin Waite what I had done, and he proceeded to tell me all the ills that might befall my step if I didn't replace those bolts. Now replaced.  Whatever Kevin says, Ken does.

Thank you to each of you, I now have a better understanding of how to solve this and it looks pretty easy, a little lube and new longer stop bolts put into the other holes. Earl, I really appreciated the Letter to Kwikee; I really like pictures and that made great sense to me...

What a great group to belong to, you have helped make ownership of these beautiful coaches a lot more fun and a lot less stressful...
