We had a tire blow out (sidewall failure) on our F150 yesterday. We wouldn't have noticed it because our backup camera is working intermittently (see separate post on this problem). A driver behind us pulled up and honked and when I looked in the rearview mirror all I saw was smoke! We stopped quickly on the divided highway and Jona and I both bailed out with 2 fire extinguishers. The left over casing was super hot but not in flames. We ended up changing the tire on the F150 and continuing on. No damage to the rim, but the heat from the tire took out the dust casing on the shock. Today I bought remote tire pressure monitors for the coach and for the toad. We have tire pressure monitor on the coach but it is only accessible through Silverleaf and is difficult to see while underway. Additionally, there isn't any warning on failure. The external pass through system has an audible warning and programmable parameters. Lesson Learned.

So glad no one was hurt, and in the scheme of things - minimal damage.

And, great of you to post this situation, which must have been a bit scary.

I also salute the usage of Tire Pressure Monitor Systems. Many brands, so will not bring those up here. IMO, this is a 'Don't leave home without one.' safety device for all RV'ers.

Travel safe, have fun,
