What is proper procedure for checking coolant level.. 1997 CC Affinity #5410. Have coolant reservoir with sight glass. Was told when engine cold nothing should be in sight glass. After motor hot coolant should appear in sight glass ?
Thanks

Check your manual, but on mine, the surge tank is half full cold, and the level only rises about 1 inch when hot.

Sight glass, is just that. When cold, during your pre trip check coolant needs to be visible in the middle of the, "sight glass" . And when the engine is warm the coolant expands you will still see coolant in the entire sight glass.

None of this stuff matters as long as you can keep the fluid in the site tube it will be ok! I like to see my coach fluid level about 2 inches from the top when hot and if it does overflows it will blowing out the Overflow tube and be fine. This tank is only an overflow Reserve to keep the radiator topped off
