The fan would not change from windshield to dash board, stuck in windshield. I can change it manually by pulling the lever down on the side of the fan box. In the process of trouble shooting I cut the vacuum line between the dash switch and the actuator. Not sure why they sued a vacuum actuator instead of 12 Vols. Looks like my problem is either the vacuum source going into the switch or the switch itself. Not exactly sure how to repair the vacuum line. Frustrated at the moment will wait until tomorrow. Did not think this one out before I started trying to fix it.

The vacuum generator has failed. The default position is the defrost.
Find it and fix it or find the leak and correct that.

Yes the automotive industry standard is to use vacuum to move the doors. By DOT rules the default has to be windshield so a loss of vacuum would cause your issue.
Now the challenge will be figuring our where yo lose it at. Since you already have to fix the connection for the door I would start at the switch, do you have vacuum going in if not start backing up towards the pump. Diesel's don't create vacuum so they use a small pump. I believe people have stated CC put it under the driver in the electrical bay.

On my 1998 Affinity there is a Gast vacuum pump mounted in the electric bay under the drivers location. The vacuum pump is mounted next to a small compressor. The pump is designed to run constantly when the ignition is on. I was able to get mine going by tapping on the brushes. When I took it apart the brushes were 90% worn, leaving dust everywhere. I did replace the brushes while it was disassembled. Gast sells the brushes individually not as a pair.

When my pump failed CC said go to Ford for the part. Ford wanted over $150.00 for the part I later got from CC for around $40.00. Twi 2004 Intrigue 11731

Thanks for the inputs. I'vemoved both the vacuum generator and the compressor in the front compartment to mound an AC compressor and air hose reel. I didn't know it ran constantly with the ignition on, thanks for that information. Crowded quarters under the dash and front console. I've repaired vacuum lines before by using a slightly larger piece of tubing to reconnect, hope iI can find some the correct size. I replaced a heater core a bunch of years age and that was difficult because of the lack of access.

If your referring to the air compressor that I carry in the bay it's a Porter Cable 6 gallon 150 psi that costs $160 at Home Depot. If I were going to buy another one I'd consider at the Rigid with the same specs that costs $140 at HD. Reviews are some better, it's less expensive but it looks just like the Porter Cable. Have had no real issue the PC, used it for inflating tires and running nail guns and impact wrenches (not on a full time basis). They claim 100% duty cycle but recommend a 50% to 75%. Talked to Customer Service and still don't really know what that means. I was blowing out the air filter on the Intrigue, and it got hot and shut down before I completed the task. Then I ran it continuously for about 3 to 5 minutes, let it rest for about the same then continued. It was 105+ at the time in Tucson. Looked for a oil filled compressor with equal specs, really couldn't find one, they are much more expensive and much heavier and won't fit in that compartment.

The dash air problem is "fixed". It was the vacuum generator. Pulled it out, removed the brushes, cleaned them and blew out the motor, Vioal!! Repaired the cut vacuum line using a larger piece of tubing as a splice. Thanks for your help, learned something.
