Apologies for yet another Shock discussion.

Application: 2007 CC Inspire.

I have read comments about the new Koni's and it seems like a good choice. The Koni web site recommends the following:

Rear: KONI rv Price: $180.79
88051013
NEW FSD

Front: KONI rv Price: $225.30
99B3254
EVO

I also spoke with Road King and they are $1520 for a set of 4. Are they worth the 2X in price?

Has any one place an extension strap limiter on their coach? This seems to be a problem for CC's.

Mark,

I also have a 2007 Inspire 360 and I have the new Koni shocks front and rear. Ride is great and no bottoming out. I can send you the part numbers if you wish.

I am at the shop getting road king shocks installed. Will at road King is a prince to work with.

Should be driving shortly. Can report what I think.

Will gave a price break when buying 4. Still pricey. Cost the same to install

What a difference. Have only got fronts on, Road King is sending spacers for rear. Just the fronts are a world of difference.

Time will tell. 14 years may be on the far side for changing them

On a different note, I have a Kenwood in dash stereo system with the Garmin GPS and camera. Everything works fine but I can't get any sound out of the unit for any function! The speakers work fine for the house Yamaha stereo! Am I missing something? This is on a 2009 Allure 470. The wiring diagram shows a switching devise in the dash but I have yet to see it? Any idea folks?

Thanks in advance!

I had the FSDs installed and after 25,000 miles they felt no better than the shocks I took off, which were Koni also. Installed Road Kings on all four corners and the ride was and still is, much improved.

By coincidence I am looking for a set of shocks for my 1998 Intrigue. (and also the rear lower mounting bracket which broke off when one of the shocks seized; but I don't expect anyone except maybe Kevin W or Country Coach to be able to find that for me)

Anyway does anyone know where to find a fitment/application listing for Road King and/or Koni shocks for a specific RV model & year? Or do I need to take off the old ones and measure the extended & contracted lengths, mounting hole sizes & orientations, etc. to figure out which part numbers to order by specs?

Thanks!

To close this thread, first thanks to all that responded. I decided on Road King shocks. After surveying this and other forums, I did not see any negative comments or regrets about the purchase. I also felt it will better sustain the quality of my coach, with a better ride eliminating vibration induced problems. I get them in about two weeks. Also, as for information purposes the bolt to bolt dimension for the front on my coach is 17" and 18.25" for the rear.

I was considering replacing them myself but the rear look a bit difficult as they are located behind the rear wheels.

Thanks for letting us know what you decided to do. But please do come back and let us know how you like them. (Do get say about 500 miles on them, before coming to any confusion.) Also let us know which ones you went with. I know that about 6 months after I bought 6 RK's, that they came out with the larger diameter shock. When I called to talk with them about this, the opinion I got was that for my lighter weight 40' with tag (The Allure in comparison to say the Magna/Affinity is 4-8K lbs lighter, depending on model year.) Or say even a 45' coach, which is obviously more heavy. They felt my 2 1/2" diameter shocks were appropriate for my application. (And, I agreed after considering the conversation, and then doing a bit more 'surf-education' via Google:)!)

And as this is a shock related ahead comparing Koni to RK's. I'll repeat my earlier opinion that for those who would prefer to spend less, that I felt the Koni SP3 shocks on the rear positions, along with the RK's on the steer/front - was a good combination. (SP3's Koni Adjustable model also came out after I had purchased he 6 RK's.)

And finally related to shocks. Did I not read that someone in the CC gang had been able to install the new to US Koni "99" shock? (Not sure it is the "99" nomenclature here in the US, but believe that is what the Apline owners called it. And really not a new shock, as it was I understand it it was developed for touring busses in Europe, and has been in used for several years.) Sure would like to know how owners of CC's feel the Koni "99" shock works for them. (Alpine owner I know with a 40 non tagged coach, is very pleased with the "99").

Mark - Sorry if you feel this is an attempt to hijack, but we all know how hard it is to search for info under the Yahoo User Group formatted sites, so wanted to get this info, and perhaps others feedback too.

Best to you, and all,

Smitty

Hi Smitty

Thanks for writing.

When I spoke to the RK representative, Raul, we talked about the different models. My Inspire weighs about 33,000 lbs and we discussed the 3" as compared to the 2.5 and we decided to stay with the 2.5. I went to the Koni site and could not find anything related to the "99" mentioned by other owners. My decision is not a knock on Koni, I have them on my pickup, but rather wanting to end my shock pursuit which has some trials and failures along the way.

Sorry if I came back a little strong on the thread hijack many comments earlier. I should have pointed the contributor to the method to start a new thread as I have not seen his post.

As a note, I asked RK about the life time warranty that I had read about. They do not support that claim anymore and was only available during the first few years of operation. I hope my selection will end my shock story for many years to come so I can focus on making the best margarita.

All I know is that when I needed to replace my rear shocks on my 04 Intrigue with a Tag axle Koni had the wrong information posted on its web site. If you will contact Eric at Premier Motor coach service center in Tucson, he'll have the info for you as he has the original drawings and specs for CC suspension parts. Right now he checking on replacements for the front end, TWI 204 Intrigue 11731 with ISL 400 engine.

Smitty back in 09 when Koni was made in China Country Coach and install them on my couch and they were garbage I decided to go to Road King all the way around and during that last few years had them off and on trying to build them and actually had them go out on the front once I gave up on Road King when Koni came out with the new shock. I haven't replace the rear shocks that are rotating but I put on the Koni's on the front and now have a few thousand miles on them. I am very pleased with them and they are very heavy duty shock if my rears go out I will go to Coney as well

I have a very similar rig #30832 and replaced the front shocks about six months ago. I installed Koni sp3s and noticed a big difference with the adjustment on the middle of the 5 available settings. After six months, I'm ready to reset to position #5. I need to replace the rears as well, but that will happen after I replace all these tires@#^$^@#& Jack 370isl allure 30832

Dennis:

There is a switch on the dash. It has an odd name, and my coach is in the shop. From the drivers seat, look down on the bottom left of the dash, one of those three are the ones. Good luck.

How about a switch that says "Dash" and "Home" somewhere in your dash? The "Dash" side means the dash radio has access to your front speakers and the "Home" side means the house A/V system has access to your front speakers. There is a beautiful little solenoid that switches the speaker leads...

Sorry, but I just now saw your inquiry. I have a 2003 40' Allure, with a tag also. I too have a 1,000lb motorcycle that rides on a Hydralift on the back of my coach. I went through a lot of research a year ago, as I needed new shocks too. I went with Road Kings, and especially with the whipping caused by dips with the heavy bike on the back, I am very happy with the Road Kings. I originally had adjustable Bilstines(sp?) and four of the six were broken, and were barely working on the weakest setting. I still feel the effect of the heavy bike when I go over a bad dip, but it is night and day better than before. Good luck! Bruce P

Just picked up the 07 Inspire which has 30k miles. The old shocks were worn. I replaced them with the new Road Kings and much improved ride for the 30 mile trip home. Side by side stability was improved with a 20 mph or so cross wind. Porpoising was non-existent. The biggest improvement was stability, it seemed to ride level and stable. The technician at the diesel shop mentioned they are good shocks to me as well. Happy I purchased the road kings.

As a side note, they had to remove the rear wheels to get to the shock mounts. I looked to see if I could replace them on my own, the front are within reach, but the rear I concluded that removal of the  wheels was required, I do not have the equipment to jack the bus up also to remove the wheels  due to the weight. Installation was more than I thought.

I also had the air dryer filter changed for the air system, I had the coach two years and have not changed since I owned it. My wife found a Country Coach service recommendation list that was very handy. If some one is interested I can get it and post it.

Conclusion: Happy with the ride, stability and comfort, the wheels seem to track better as well, not so much steering wandering.

Road King shocks: 4 years ago OMC installed Road Kings but they were set up incorrectly. I mentioned porpoising to Bob Vinson when I was at his shop in Junction City in July, he test drove it, and called Road King.
We live in Steamboat

Springs, CO and Road King's marketing and engineering Dept. is in Montrose CO. We visited their shop with our 4 year old problem. They were gracious and removed all of the shocks and ran them through their testing equipment.
They supplied me with graphs showing the problem, corrected the problem, no charge, and thanked me for bringing this to their attention. The coach drives and rides like a dream. I highly recommend Road Kings after this very positive experience. I also highly recommend Bob Vinson and RCV Custom Coach in Junction City.
