My following message was posted about 60,000 messages ago! You may recall Russ Cedarholm had made a custom designed door check for the coach front door that is much better than the original. He just wrote to me saying that he has manufactured another 200 door checks. I believe Allures should have been included in the following list of affected coaches, as I had a 2007 Allure where I needed to replace it.

All the doors were made by Avionics Corp. which is now out of business. All doors checks I produce are 303 stainless and come with installation instructions. They are very easy to install. Dear Group, (approx. message 40,000)
In my recent travels, I would visit Country Coach folks in RV parks. As they opened their coach door, I would often hear the tell-tail pop or creak that indicated a bad door check. The door check is the device that breaks when a gust of wind blows your coach door beyond its limits.
The door check assembly being used was designed for use in the Automotive Industry and not designed specifically for Motor Coach doors. Used in the coach application, the weight of the coach door along with the angle in which the assembly works, puts undo weight and stress loads on the plastic covered metal rod. Because of this, it is certain that the rod will fail under normal use. The replacement part cost ranges from $235 to $380 for the assembly.
I was contacted today by a Country Coach owner who has engineered a replacement rod. He as been in contact with Specialties Logistics and Jim Cooley at Country Coach. He has made several hundred replacement rods, laser cut from 303 stainless. Estimated cost is $60.
If you are in need of one before they are available from Specialty Logistics, you may call Russ Cederholm at 414-254-9472 (Central time). John Davis, www.jdrv1.com, might carry a few in stock for his customers.
Below is the message from Russ:
"Replacement Rod Kit replaces the faulty original Rod with a high tensile strength 303 stainless part that will allow for the use of most of the original parts of the door check assembly. This modification and parts are easily installed by the Coach Owner, Coach Dealer or Service Center. The Replacement Rod Assembly comes complete with easy to follow step-by-step instructions and drawings. The estimated time for installation is approximately 1.5 to 2.0 hours."

Is there anyway you could provide a picture of the door check? I have a 09 Allure and don't know if the door check your describing applies to my coach.
Thanks

An easy way to share pictures would be the CCI Facebook page - "Country Coach International "

I am OK as of right now. My door check broke about 8 years ago and I was told, I believe by you, that your part would not work on the Allure. The parts guy at Holland Motors in San Diego had a replacement piece fabricated and it got the job done. Probably no stronger that the original but I watch the wind a lot more closely now.

Any tips on removing the door panel? My husband has been gun shy about starting the project.
Thanks,
