I have a 1997 Intrigue, with Duo Thermal roof units, they work terrific, but want to replace them with something quieter. They are very loud compared to new RV's we have looked at. Does anyone have any suggestions to which make or model I should get?
Thanks,
Mike

The only thing I can tell you id that I had my units replaced on my '94 coach. It had Dometic units that had been on it since new. Checked with Dometic and they supplied the numbers for the replacements. Went to Camping World and asked them if we could use some other units as I had checked and it was pretty much across the board that the new Dometics were a POS and that was one of the kinder statements!!! According to CW, they had checked and if they used any other air conditioner, they would have to rewire the whole coach and it would void the warranty?????.Funny thing was, they kept trying to sell me other Dometic's that they had in stock, one of which was a discontinued model. To make a long story short, I insisted on using the Units that Dometic had said were the replacement's for the ones I had.I am very unhappy with both, the units and the installation. These things are so noisy that you have to max the tv out in order to hear it. And in 90 degree weather, three of these things won't ever get the coach below around 80 degrees, and these units are not direct replacements for the units I had.

I replaced my 21 year old Dometic with the 15k btu Dometic Heat Pump a year ago.
It is just as loud as the old smaller 13.5K unit in the bedroom area according to my cellphone decibel meter.
You might want to determine what brand units you are hearing on the new rig that you like better and buy those.
I would guess that 90% of the RV AC rooftop units in use in the US are Dometic due to availability and ease of replacement.

I have Coleman a Heat Pumps on my 07 Inspire and they are pretty quiet. Most of the time we just run the rear and close off the main outlets on the unit. Supplies air to all the smaller vents throughout the coach.
