Hi, just had oil chnage, filter and it took 44 quarts oil to full on dip stick,i called cat and they said it should only hold 36 q with filter, so anyone with a 2000 magna c10 ever put that much oil in. The last oil change last year was the same 44q and there was no blow by from oil breater pipe. Any idea what to do. Thanks Charles 2000 magna 5886

You can't go by the dipstick. If you do call cat find out the right amount of oil to put in then put it in and have the tech etch your dipstick at this mark. As we had this same experience, over filled. The best way is use your transmission arrows to check your oil in the crankcase. The safest way.

If you overfill them they'll self-level themselves, right out the blow by hose.

If 44qt's came out and I was the one doing it, 44 would be what I'd put back in.

If I was concerned like you are, I'd get the specs on the oil pan from cat and verify what pan you have, sometimes pans get changed, sometimes there different then what they think you have

Charles,

I did my own service on my '01 Magna with the C-10 for 15 years. Nine gallons of oil put my oil level right on full. On the face of it, I think you are way over full. As a rule, too much oil is just as bad as too little. Did someone change out that dipstick from OEM???

My old 2005 Inspire C-9 the dip stick at the full mark was 4 quarts to much. I used the add oil mark as the correct fill. The engine was full at 36 gallons.

Should be quarts. Old age is my excuse.

I had my dipstick tube separate up by the tube end, it changed my full mark over an inch and a quarter which amounted to a little over a gallon to much, if you filled it. It did push oil out all over my tow vehicle, that's how I found the problem. Went to the manufacturer spec on how many quarts of oil and reset the dipstick and it has been fine since.

On the 44qt oil change, could it be that you put 36qts. in the engine and another 5 its into the reservoir that allows you to pump additional oil into the engine via the electric pump??

Just an idea,
