Call Source Engineering tech support, something is not setup correctly. Do you have the restrictor plate in hydraulic line? My C 13 with wax valve runs at 185-190F basically all the time, uphill or down, hot or cold day, doesn't matter at all.

thank you, I ordered the valve from Kevin Waite and when I received it the lines were connected to valve. I made sure the P and T connections were correct. I will check with source tech support

JR, We installed ours with the restrictor at first and also ran to cool. After removing the orifice we run 180-181 in the flatlands and 190 in the hills.......Skip 2002 Intrigue #11329

Sounds like the thermostat is open. I had the same problem, after replacing mine everything seems fine. It is located on the top rear of the engine. There are two a large one and a small one the small one on mine was stuck open. O lie the wax valve it now keeps me at 180.

Our C-9 cat engine runs hot also, especially in stop and go traffic. Would like to know more about the wax valve and if one would help. If so, is there a brand or item number to look for? Thanks!

Our 2006 Inspire 360 also runs hot in slow traffic, as does the transmission. Have learned to use low gears to keep rpm up which helps a lot. The transmission will go over 230 in some of these cases, though the Allison guys tell me this is normal for short periods, and encouraged me to "run off the back of the transmission" i.e. shift down to keep rpms up which also helps the transmission heat.
Question: What effect on transmission heat has the wax value shown on the C9?
Thanks,
Michael

We do that also, use lower gears, but it still makes me nervous!
Don't know if the wax valve helps the trans or not?! Other input?

The wax valve helps keep both the transmission and the engine cool. After installing it I think I figured out why. The wax valve regulates the fan according to the engine speed. In traffic the fan runs faster because the engine runs faster. The old electronic controller only increased the fan speed when the engine got over 190 degrees (when it works properly) . You can hear the difference driving a coach with the wax valve, in first gear the fan runs very fast in a direct relationship with the RPM of the engine. Once the wax valve gets hot it even increases the fan speed more by opening the valve.
I guess the reason that the coach manufacturer used the electronic one is to keep down engine noises down.
Hope this makes sense

The temp issue with transmissions is caused by the fact CC monitors the temp of the fluid as it exits the transmission to the radiator and not of the temp of the fluid in the pan where it supposed to be sampled. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

Installed Source engineering wax valve on our C-9. At first it ran fan too fast. Removed orifice, now engine runs 185, transmission temp perfect. In temperature 110 OAT climbing hills engine will go to 190, transmission stays ok. Source engineering has great tech support.

On Monday I had the wax valve installed at Source Engineering my temps had been as high as 210deg, now it comes on at 192deg and turns off at 168deg plus it only takes about 20 seconds to get there from my Silverleaf. Trans temp runs around 170deg now. Also at the same time had the Comfort Air Ride Valves installed what a difference.
