Rich,

Sounds like you put something in there that you should have. If you place a coffee cup with gold around the lip (or anywhere else for that matter) this will light up the inside of the microwave like the fourth of July. This can damage the microwave. It's best not to put anything containing any kind of metal inside the micro. Try putting a glass measuring cup with water in it and see if it heats up. If so you are good to go.

The first sentence should have read, "Sounds like you put something in there that you should NOT have"

There are two different trays you can put in the convection ovens, the glass tray or the metal one. The metal one is for the oven and the glass one is for microwave! Be sure you have the glass tray in!

Rich, we had a similar type incident as you, but it was sporadic. We determined that the rotating wire part that the glass plate sits on, was what was causing the arching. We purchased another one base on our model # and so far no more arcing.
