12/31/16 we contacted Dishnetwork and Winegard to find out months ago (without tell their customers) they separated their connection According to Winegard either buy another expensive receiver and stay with Dishertwork or buy another receiver for $126.00 and go with Direct TV Since I was disappointed with Dishnetwork for not informing customers before cutting off our reception and still billing us for it. We decided to go with Direct TV that was another tragic decision. We finally received part reception from Direct TV on 1/18/17 I say part reception because with Direct TV we can no longer receive ABC CBS and NBC I couldn't believe this so a call back to Winegard to find out Direct TV only has HD TV and there is no way to get ABC CBS or NBC. I thought there was a law they had to provide National News programming. We now are back to watching 90% of antenna programming and 10% Direct TV When we get home to N J we will probably decide to look into another way to receive programming for our house RV and boat. This also cost us many many hrs on our cell phone and valuable time from our vacation.

If you promise not to use your receivers for local access you can get east west network feeds. PBS will cost you $10.00 extra per month. My system is still standard definition as the human eye can't see HD with a 32" screen at my viewing distances in the front or in the Bedroom. Remember you have to have a 60" screen to resolve 1080P up to appox 10 ft. viewing distance any further away you need a larger screen. So I just accept standard 480 resolution. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731. I am not saying you won't see a difference, but that is due to better signal to noise ratio, better color and better blacks, not just better resolution.

We have Direct Tv vie winegard receiver and when we stop we have to call them and report our location they send a signal and we receive local channels. It's a hassle but it works Darrell and Marsha

Local channels are easy in DIRECTV - when you reach your destination, call DTV and change your service address (not billing address) to the address of the campground where you are staying. Make sure that they refresh your receivers, and Voila! - you have the local stations for your current viewing area. Works like a charm, and at no cost. You can change your SA as often as needed.

Sorry to have to disagree, Marlene. My human eye can very easily discern the difference in resolution between HD and standard 480-line TV, even on relatively small screens at close distances, and on any size screen at longer ones. And yes - there are other improvements in HD, but the resolution is 95% of the difference. It's also possible to see the even more improved resolution in the new 4K+ sets, but that's a much closer call. If you can't tell the difference between HD and 480 line screens then I'm sorry to hear it, and you might think about getting your eyes checked. But I sure can and I suspect so can most others...

Winegard told us we have to have HD TV and will NOT get local stations even if I call  There is no way to get local stations I have tried every dept with Winegard and Direct TV  I have been on the phone 1/31/16 to now  The government shouldn't let them get away with this. I guess I have to go to Mexico to get a good receiver LOL

If you call direct tv and tell them you are vacationing and need change to a temporary "vacation" location, they should do it. We have been doing it for the past 5 years. If you get someone on the phone who says you can't, call back.

I am at a loss as to your problems. One, I think, might be that you are dealing with Winegard and not someone who installs, and services the dishes on your coaches. I would contact a company or individual in the area who has a good reputation and rating on installing mobile satellite equipment. I would then sit down and have them explain the operation to me and give me documentation. There is an after market box that can be attached between the TV and the antenna that translates the HD signal for older TV's that are not compatible. That would most likely work with whatever over the air antenna you have on your coach.

We were told a number of years ago that the in motion dome dishes were not compatible with the HD satellites. Since it is almost a necessity that both Dish and Direct TV offer the latest state of the art service it is entirely possible you may have to bite the bullet and revamp your system.

Some HD Tv's have sophisticated circuits to up sample 480 to 1080p. My Sony sets are terrible compared to my Pioneer Elite units. I use Coaxial hookup for 1080i and down from my DVD player and HDMI 1080 P from my Blu ray player. Place the a standard dvd on the one player and the Blu ray version of the same movie on the blu ray player and at 12 ft you can't see the difference with a 61 inch set. At 10 ft you get a hint and at 8 ft you can begin to really see a big difference. Its not only the difference in the TV's but the source material, the quality of the play machine and the care in installation and calibration that will determine the difference. I will admit a 4k should blow away an affordable HD display. The main reason is the intensity of the blacks and large grey scale of the new 4k sets compared to early CED and LED sets. If you want a real surprise find an OLED 4K set to audition. But like Great Plasma sets of the past, be prepared to fork over the big coin. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
