Well guys, this is a new one for me. 2006 Inspire I have turn signals, 4 way flashers, running lights (the center brake light works) but no brake lights. I have replaced the bulb on the PS the one on the DS I will have to cut a hole in the air intake wall to get to the bulb. I installed a jump wire on the service brake switch for the lights so I could check without setting in the seat. I have 12v at the rear wire 55 to the tow plug but it gets lost going to the brake lights. I have checked the grounds, they are all on a ground buss bar at the rear. Any ideas Floyd 2006 Inspire 51744.

Clean the contacts well on umbilical cord and plugs. That did it for me, albeit I only had 1 failing brake light.

Probably the turn signal switch

I had the same issue twice. The signal converter (sends your brake light signal to both turn signals) may be bad. The first one I had was powered by the lights themselves and the one I have now is powered separately. Had mine done at Cliff's Welding in Mesa AZ. Your tow bar installer should have put this item in when he installed your tow bar.

Check the light sockets for corrosion. My PS backup light did not work and it was corrosion, used for fine sand paper to clean the inside of the socket and all is well.

He stated the center brake light works and the turn signals work. Most likely a failed turn signal switch.

In addition to Mikee's suggestion on the directional switch, I would expose as much of the split loom as possible for your rear light harness. I think you will find a Molex plug in that loom that has connections that are all corroded after ten years. That harness is in your engine compartment ahead of your tow board on the passenger's side.

Thanks guys, my head is spinning. I have power on the right side in the wire loom heading over the door by the motor. I will see if I can locate the Molex Plug. Will clean the plugs.

You said, (Most likely a failed turn signal switch.) Are you talking about the turn signal on the column? How does the turn signal fail if they work, I'm lost, plus (The signal converter (sends your brake light signal to both turn signals) may be bad) Where in the world is that.
Good thing the brake lights work on the tow (Air Force one) until I get this fixed, just have a short 30mi trip in March.

If the brake lights work on toad then has to sockets or wire between sockets and loom. Should join main loom near tow module. Common wire before module

And I seem to have the opposite problem. My brake lights do not go out. When I park the beast, turn off all systems (including that switch by the door) and walk away, the brake lights are still on. OTOH, when I come back the next day, the brake lights are off. And because the brake lights stay on whilst driving, I have no 4-way flashers (while the turn signal overrides the brake light and does work while driving). Any thoughts about this particularly nasty occurrence?

Brake light switch is sticking, left long enough it openns. I.E. overnight.

If you have combined turn and brake lights, not a separate turn signal light, the brake light signal for the left and right side go thru the turn signal switch (on the column). Otherwise the left and right turn signal soul not blink when you use the turn signal with the brake lights on. The 3rd brake light do not go thru the turn signal switch. You most likely have a light interface or trailer control board for trailer (toad) lighting.
The third brake light wire is not the same as the left and right signal/brake lights.
If the left and right turn signals work at the rear, this pretty much eliminates the wiring. As long as the turn and brake light is the same one, not a separate yellow turn signal.
Let me know.

You either have a failed brake light switch, the brake pedal is not returning all the way up when released, carpet, dirt, etc preventing it from releasing all the way. Or a bad turn signal switch.

OK, Like I said I have a jumper wire on the Service Brake Switch with an on-off so I flip the switch and the center brake light comes on but NO brake lights. When I first started this using a test light one side of this switch is HOT then I had my wife step on the brakes using the test light the other side got HOT so I installed the jump wire so I could check things without her.
I have 1 light bulb 4 wires going to it then about a foot from the bulb it turns to 3 wires.
I can do any combination, running lights, turn signals, 4 way but never a sign of a brake light.
The bulb number is Wagner 3157
So if bad would the turn signal switch be in the column, I know the location of the service brake switch. I will see if I can find TSS in the book.

Yes the turn signal switch is in the column. The brake light for the tail lights left and right pass thru there so when a turn signal is on the bulb will blink. The contacts can fail or break and when the turn signal is in the neutral position it will not pass the signal thru to the tail lights.
The center brake light does not go thru the turn signal switch.
Your tow board controls the trailer light plug.

Just a word of caution when trouble shooting. I got into this when wiring my coach for towing.
It is my understanding that Country Coach and most recent manufacturers wired the brake and turn signals as a separate system but internally converted it to a combined system. So when wiring for a toad you use the combined wiring system methodology.

I did fined it in the book and everything feeds through it, my head is spinning (no joke).
Thanks for all your help on this and taking the time out of your day.
My wife's nephew works at Freightliner in Portland and he is the one that designed the steering wheel. He has redesigned it so the drivers can lock it in any position rather than a fixed lock. Now all I have to do is get him free to look at it.

Well I had the first tow installed system installed by a Country Coach tech in Junction City 4 years ago then a year ago I had the second one done by Brazel's RV Performance in WA. They installed the Air Force One no problems tell 2 months ago on the way home from Eugene so I don't think it has any thing to do with the tow.

Look at the wiring diagram, find the wire from the brake light switch and the ones to the taillights. Check for 12 volts at the wire from the brake switch, with the brakes applied or a jumper, then see if 12 volts is leaving the switch to the tail lights.

I did that. I have 12v coming into the brake switch then I installed a jumper wire with an on off switch then flipped to on. I have 12v at the rear in the wire bundle using a test light wire #352 hot. I also have 12v at the tow plug #352. #352 comes down the chassis harness from brake light relay into a RC plug out of plug to CENTER BRAKE LT then it goes into the rear cap harness. Out of the harness to center brake light and also to tow plug.
D/S tail lights read
11 12g BRN---- from RC plug
11 12g BRN---- to LC Plate LTS
Ground -----to ground bar
56 12g BRN------from RC plug
56 12g BRN------to tow plug
P/S tail lights read
55 12g red------from RC plug
55 12g red------to toe plug
Ground-------to ground bar
11 12g BRN----from LC plate LT
On the page Steering Column
Turn signal switch in the center it comes out to Brake Light--- 27 16g WHT into a-- SC PLUG-- to 352 12g YEL--from DB2 plug (now my eye hurt)

Not sure
I am not sure I understand your email. I do not see any voltages. It there 12 volts going to the left rear brake/turn signal wire and for the right as well?
If the left and right rear turn signals work, the wiring is good. They are not getting the brake light signal out of the turn signal switch.
Take the wire that has the brake light signal coming to the turn signal switch and jump it to the left rear brake/turn signal wire and se if the bulb lights. This with the brakes applied or the switch jumped.

Thanks for the reply and working on this. Yes the turn signals work both side, flashers work, running lights, just no brake lights------ plus everything on the tow works, Ford Edge using the Air Force One.
I have to put this on hold for a little while, getting ready to catch a plane for Arizona, back on the 19th.
Again Thanks for all your help.

Do you have separate signal bulbs from the brake bulbs on the coach?

Up Date,
Just got back this morning from Arizona and had the wife's nephew that works at Freightliner in Portland come up and we spent about 3hrs going over the drawings and removed the turn signal, took it apart all good. Came back in checked wire numbers again then went back out thats when we found the problem.
The wire bundle that runs down the steering column on the back side got to close the the u-joint and hooked the wire going to the turn signal and broke the wire, hard to see. Now it is wrapped with electrical tape and fixed the right way.
Again thanks for your help.
