Open for suggestions on the best way from Houston, TX to Richmond, VA.
I am thinking of going I-10 to I-59 to I-75 to I-81 then I_64 into Richmond.

Been a few years since I was in Virginia, but your route looks good to me. Not sure of the construction status of any of the roads.

I don't know when you're traveling but plan to take I459 around Birmingham. I59 is being closed soon to replace several elevated sections downtown.

We were traveling through the UP of Michigan on our way to Traverse City, MI, and we had heard some roads were actually closed, and our son sent us a state of MN department of transportation summer road construction internet site which leads me to thinking that it might be a good way to check each state for road closures during road construction times.

We just came through there. We left Phoenix and took I 10 to Jacksonville, Florida and then I 95 North to Savanna, Georgia, where we are now. We plan on going on up I 95 to Richmond, then cutting back to I 81 North to New York.

There has been a few spots where they cut you down to one lane for a short distance where they are working on Bridges, but it wasn't too bad at all.

I-10 to 95 would be as easy as it gets.

We have done the coast several times - so I was thinking of going on the west side of the mountains.
I took I-59 and I-81 about 5 years ago and both were very good roads - so I thought I would try them again.
Going over to I-95 seems to be out of the way unless you want to do the coast.
