This has been discussed around here some time ago but I didn't see that anyone really had a sure-fire fix. I notice the noise is much louder on the top 18" of the front edge of the door, and possibly along the top. It's driving us nuts. The gaskets appear to be OK and the door fits snugly and flush to the body. That's why I can't figure out where all this noise is coming from.
Anyone come up with a solution? Thanks.

And I thought it was just mine! It's on my list to check out - I was wondering if maybe it's actually caused by the awning and not a leak? Hard for me to tell since I'm the driver...

Dan,
One thing we notice is that we need to close the door very hard to get it to seal. When we hear wind noise my wife closes the door again real hard and that eliminates the noise.

Dan and Dave,
We also have an intermittent problem with wind noise from the top of the entrance door. After watching the situation, I realized that it seems to appear as a result of a quartering wind or side wind from the left, which I think causes a negative pressure at the door, causing it to pull out from the weatherstripping, and hence, the noise.
When I had a similar problem with a Chevy van, the guy at the collision shop just put his knee at the inside of the door, half way down, and pulled in on the top of the door frame, slightly over bending the door in at the top. Wallah....., no more wind noise.
I am thinking of sticking a 2x4 in the door around the latch area, and push in at the top, and see if that helps.

I got some weather stripping at Home Depot and installed that across the top portion and down about half way on on side and that cured my hurrican sounding door noise.

Dealer did the same with weather striping at delivery of our used coach. Noise was on our punch list. No noise for two years, but do on occasion get some wind effect with strong quartering wind someone else described.

Hi Bill,
Dan has a 1998 Allure with a door, I think, made by Elixir as my '98 Intrigue had. Those doors used a prop like on your compartments to hold the door open. My '01 Magna has a PTL brand door, with a mechanical arm to hold it open. If you have a wind noise issue on a '03, I think CC changed brands of doors a third time. I would check with CC for an update.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. My door has a mechanical arm at the top to hold it open, couldn't figure out what a "door prop" was.
Got an email from someone who suggested blocking the opening between the awning arm and the body as well. Anyone tried this? It is clear the big noise generator is the awning, but the volume of noise and the location in the top 18" suggests the gaskets are not tightly sealing even when the door is closed. As noted earlier, the door is closing nicely tight and flush. I'm wondering if there's anyway to adjust the hinges.
From where the sound is coming from, it appears that what is needed is for the door to close more snugly along the front edge so that the gasket on the door is more snug against the gasket inside the door frame. Bending the door would not address this as it would compress the gasket along the top rather than the front (hinge side) edge of the door. I was hoping someone was going to tell me CC had a better gasket set for this door.

Dan:
I have investigated several Alures and Intrigues and found the same problem.
It is caused by the bracket on the door which receives the end of the hold open device.
If you get up on a ladder and look down on the door and watch the bracket as the door comes close you may notice the bracket hits the door frame trim. Mine hit the black plastic and just the edge of the trim.
With a small grinding wheel,I cut away the door frame trim to give the bracket clearance. Wow what a difference now on shutting the door. I don't have to slam it any more. Surprizingly enough it would spring out the top of the door thus allowing air entry. I mainly did it to make the door close more easly..
It was not practical to grind the bracket, and as I recall it is fastened internally to the door so it can't be removed.
One must know the frame was ground to notice the change.
I have seen at least 10 coaches with the same problem.

I checked my coach yesterday and sure enough there was interference between the bracket and the coach body above the door.
In my case there appears to be very little interference and when I placed a straight edge on the door no apparent bowing. I may use the dremel tool and grind a little off the bracket and see if that makes a difference. I do not experience a lot of wind noise so it will not be a priority for me.
Clearly (now it has been pointed out to me!) this is a manufacturing tolerance issue and is easy to see that it could be a noise contributor. I wonder if CC ever changed the dimensions to avoid this problem? Does it occur on the new door versions also?

My 03 Allure is an early 03--pre 1st Avenue ( I bought it in March of 02 at the Ft. Benning rally). Thus I assume it is more comparable to an 02. This new, narrower coach door does not have the arm on top like my '97 and '00 Allures had, but I am encountering alot of wind noise and occasional door popping loose just as I had on the previous coaches. Has anyone out there come up with a cure on this type of door?

Walt, I have an '02 Intrigue with wind noise up front which I thought was from the door. I have taped the door leading edge and the top edge from the outside and it made no difference. I have also put some of the black foam pipe insulation around the arms of the awning. The noise is still there. I sometimes think it is from the mirror, from the sat dish on the roof, and the bus armor. Problem is I can't get the wife to drive the darn thing so I can move around and listen.
Next step is to tape the mirror openings and plug up the openings on the bus armor. Might even tape something to the sat antenna. If the noise is from one of those items, by changing the shape, the pitch of the noise should change. Then I know where to focus.

We get far too much wind noise from the driver's window on our 03 Allure.
Taping it helps but prevents opening it which I do often. CC had no solution. Is there any chance that part of what you are looking for is the window?
And how exactly did you tape the outside of the door and then test it? Come in through a window??

Had a guy at the Flying J do it with me inside. Guess I should have had him tape the complete door just to make sure.

I have a noise problem as well but most of the noise I have is coming from the bottom of the door. The strut you speak of is at the top of the door. I noticed the noise at the bottom the other day when I closed the step hatch while going down the highway and the noise pitch changed. Going to try to add some additional weather stripping.
