I'm in the process of installing a wax valve in my Inspire. I have a question for those who have done it or have had it done. Did you just unhook the hoses and leave the FDCA in place or remove it? If you removed it did you just cut the wires? Thanks for any help you can give.

Gary,
I just installed a wax valve on our '01 Intrigue, and I left the S-D controller in place. I had already unplugged it, and left it unplugged. I had no reason to remove a faulty controller since I have no plans to go back to it.

BTW, we drove from Yuma to Phoenix round trip on Easter weekend, and never saw the temp above 187 F!

My only regret, I wish I had changed to the wax valve system the last time I replaced the electronic portion of the Sauer Danfoss controller 5 or 6 years ago for about the same $.

In "layman's terms", what is a wax valve?

Is that something as a current vacationer using coach 30 or so days a year and maybe 5000 miles max a year should do? Coach has 105k on it. Cat C12 505hp.

If so, what is Approx cost on this item? I will not be doing it myself, unless my 13 year old can do it. (Kids are smart these days)

Hi Dave,
It is a mechanical device to control the fan speed rather than the Sauer Danfoss electronic controller. Check: Source Engineering
BTW; is your family ancestry from the Cedar Rapids, IA area ? I have Krugs

Too soon to tell for me, but I will inform the group at the end of our summer escape travels. (Probably 5000 + miles).

Here's a good read on the wax valve;

My mileage got a hair better.

I left the old controller in place. It had been replaced four years earlier and was starting to act up intermittently. I capped it off, disconnected the power and will use it for backup if needed.

I bought all the parts for the conversion For about $390-
