I have the same size on our Intrigue .... I'd go with the 295 R80 tires ... they have better load characteristics ... at least in the Toyo and Michelin line.

I also shifted from 12R's to 295/80. Better selection of tires was my main reason. I wanted Michelin XZR2's for this set, and they were not available in 12R's.

Slight 2-3 MPH difference on the speedometer at 60-65MPH. I elected to not have the unit re-calibrated, as we always drive with the GARMIN on.

It's been a good decision for us, and suspect I'll keep running 295/80's in the future, but will of course see what may have changed with 12R options when I shop again in 5-6 years:)!

Best of luck to you,
Smitty

Aren't the 12R and 295/80/22.5 the same size?

The 295s are about an inch shorter in overall diameter with higher load ratings and tire options. Just went through this research and went with the Michelin 295 XZA2s through the FMCA program....no fitment issues and no regrets ..

Jack - They're real close in size, between the Michelin 12R XZE* and the 295/80 Michelin XZA2's. As I mentioned, so close I'm not adjusting my speedometer.

Now not all tire manufactures have the same exact circumference within the 12R, and I suppose the 295/80 too. So the variance can be for sure more pronounce.

Load ratings are another variable based upon specific manufacturer and model of tire. I doubt anyone would have any 'weight' related problems with this shift, for sure consult the specific tire manufactures weight specifications chart.

Best to you, and all,
Smitty
