I just read the several Brake controller posts and thanks for posting. I am still a little confused..... wiring the controller seems simple by using a 12 volt supply and ground from under the dash and then taping into the brake switch, if I can find it. Now do I have to run a separate blue with to the plug at the back of my coach? Is there an existing wire I can use that is already in place?

Thanks in advance,

Steve,
There are 4 spare wires running from the engine compartment to the dash. They are labeled wire numbers 4 (12 g red), 5 (16g yellow),6 16g black), & 7 (16g orange).

Mine are in a corrugated conduit and hanging down in the engine compartment on the passenger side. I suspect they were tied up higher in the compartment at one time. I have no idea where the other end of the wires are under the dash. I would suspect someplace behind the kick panel below the steering wheel. Perhaps someone else with our age and model of coach will chime in.

Your wire list in you Owner's manual is a valuable resource as you add electrical items to your coach.

Found the extra wires both under the dash and in the engine compartment. I put a tone generator on the terminal strip that hold these extra wires. Located in the outside electrical panel under the drivers seat. Both ends of the extra wires are terminated together on a terminal strip so I simply backed off the lower screw and attached my tone generator. Easy to find the under dash wire, it is terminated on a terminal strip up under the steering column. Back in the engine compartment I found the other wire in a bundle next to the A/C compressor. Without the tone generator it would have been near impossible!! Very difficult to splice another 12 ga wire to reach the trailer plug, very tight space and in my case very dirty as the hydraulic tank is there and has leaked some over the years. Now if only I can find the brake light switch to attach to the controller..... Any ideas???

Steve,

The brake light switch is in the same compartment under the drivers seat. Should be located low on the back wall and looks like a smashed beer can with two wires connected to it, unless it's been replaced then it will be much smaller and made of plastic. The originals are no longer available. But it only operates a relay mounted somewhere else. My relay is in the same compartment and labeled Brake Lights. It's among the many relays in this compartment.

Good luck,
Barney
