Need help on an issue we are having on our 98 Allure,
While the engine is running our headlights dim and brighten. Turn on turn signal or flashers and problem worsens. Volt meter dash guage pulsates along with headlights
Here is a list of things I have tried to fix this problem.
1-Removed all batteries and recharged individually. All batteries charged to full charge, cleaned all battery cables and reinstalled.
2- Removed alternator and took to repair shop and alternator showed good. 14.2 volts and output at 100+ amps for thirty minute under load. Tech said he could rebuild (again) but would not guarantee it would do anything different.
Alternator has always keep batteries charged so starting has not been a problem. Analog guage (dash) and a digital meter (in hand) both show the steady 1 to 1 1/2 volt swing while idling. The dash volt meter can be anywhere from 12-14 volts at highway speed.
3-Tech suggested something about an isolator going bad but don't know where to start.
Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a voltage regulator

Sounds like a grounding problem, confirm or add a ground to the frame for the instrument or dash cluster.

Reinstalled the alternator, cleaned and tighten all connections, snugged up on grounds at body and frame connections and all is good. Voltmeter swing went from 11.75-14.5 volts to a steady 14.25-14.23. Happy camper. Thank everyone.
