This may be totally normal and I never noticed it be before, but when I turn my ignition on, before I start the engine I'm getting about a 44 amp DC draw off the chassis batteries. I can actually watch the voltage dropping over 4 or 5 minutes. I have a C12 Cat. Is this normal? Maybe it's the headlights?

You have a grid heater in the intake manifold that starts heating when the ignition key is turned on. This occurs while you see the wait to start light is on. I have never looked at the amp draw but 40 plus amps would not be out of line.

I was thinking it could be something like this. If my Magna has a wait to start light, I have never seen it. I don't see anything on my dash labeled like that. Am I missing something?

Hey Rich, my 02 Affinity doesn't have a wait to start light (like my 7.3L Excursion) either. Don't think there is such a thing on the C12.....

Possibly not. My 2007 Intrigue doesn't have a wait to start light either since my c13 doesn't have glow plugs

My little ISC doesn't have glow plugs either. But it does have a intake grid heater that turns on before engine start, Now that I have a glass dash I don't have a wait to start light either. You do have to have something that induces warm air into the intake before start

Well now I feel much better! But the question then remains, if we do not have a wait to start or glow plug light, should we still wait to start, and if so, how long?

Rich, I wait until the gauges complete their up and down cycle. Then I crank it up.

I was told back when we bought our first coach to turn the ignition switch on, wait for the computer to run its checks (about 15 secs) before starting the coach. We've owned a Safari, 2 Country Coachs and a Beaver. Two with Cats and two with Cummins. All seem to need the approx 15 secs prior to starting. I've even found in our auto, especially when in AZ during the winter, when temps begin to really heat up, the car also needs a few seconds to allow the vehicles computer to run its checks.
When I have not waited, on occasion, some electrical would not operate properly.
