Need to replace my air filter. I have been using Napa Gold (6556). Checked Napa and tey want $115 for the filter. Looked at Ryder and they have a Donalson equivalent for about $40. I've used Wix in the past. Use a Donalson on my generator. I think Donalson is standard on Freightliner. Anyone have and comments on Donbalson filters?

I use filterbarn. Com. They have cross reference on website.
Used many types. Fit is same.
Good price.
Never reuse air filters.
Some will tell you to blow out with air. But one little tear will ruin the engine...

A now few years old, like 5-6, caution on Filter Barn.
I ordered fuel filters from Filter Barn, had two sets delivered, to carry as spares.
On one filter was under it's Shelf Life, and it was a bit under 3 months away from being expired.
The call to Filter Barn was one where I was 'unreasonable'. The nerve of me suggesting that they should not be selling 'expired stock'!
And take Manufacture's Expiration/Shelf Life seriously. Engine manufactures will deny warranty claims, if they find not spec filers as the 'root cause' of a problem. (Sure, not a problem for current CC owner's!).
Saving $20, $30 - whatever, dollars on filters - can come back and haunt you with a major expense on engine damage repair. (IF, an expired filter fails you....).
I'm a regular Cummins Club (Appropriate, as I have a Cummins...), and buy my filters from Cummins.
$.02:)!

Here's the Fram one I use in my 1998 Intrigue:

I frequent gravel roads so mine gets replaced often; no need to worry about shelf life.

I got a Luber Finer LAF 1839 air filter on Amazon for $85. Seems to be very high quality. I did not see a Donaldson filter that cross referenced with this.
