My steps will not extend. I've cked power to the controller and have 13 volts. I took the door apart and when I press the plunger I hear a click. I cleaned the ground and made sure the screw was tight. I'm thinking it might be the controller motor or the module has went bad. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem with mine, ended up being the motor, I ordered a new one from Kevin Waite. To test the motor Kevin suggested I put a 12v drill battery on the leads, it confirmed the problem right away.

I recommend checking the wiring harnesses between the door jam and door. They have a tendency to get pinched over a period of time and the wires break down or short out. I had to replace mine in my '09 Allure. When doing so I took the grommets out of the door and door jam and put a continuous piece of clear tubing to replace them. The tubing (3/8 I think) will fit tight in the door jam and freely in the door. Let the tubing ride in and out of the door. The new wires cannot get pinched. Worth a shot!

Have you checked the contacts in your door? I had the same problem and was told to clean them and spray some WD-40 on them as this will help them make better contact. Cured our problem.
As I had done everything you have done with no luck. The WD-40 and cleaning the contacts did the trick for us.

Had this problem 3 times. Went under the stairs and tightened all the wire connections the first time and it worked. Second time went under the stairs and redid all the connections and magnet surface and it worked. 3 time I just cleaned the contacts on inside of door and it worked.
On ours I think the basic problem was the poor quality of the original connections.

You're guess about the motor may be correct. A simple resistance check with a VOM should reveal the answer. That said, many times I find that simply taking a large eraser and rubbing it across the for contacts about 20 times will be enough to be abrasive enough to provide improved electrical contact and allow the motor to function properly once again.

Ha ! Replaced controller & motor only to find the wires between controller and motor was bad. So, check those wires as well.
My steps were possessed until we got this one figured out.
I believe it was a short (6"?) with connectors at both ends.
Also replaced the switch in the door.
Best of luck.

A few other outside chances of helping:
1) I had some successful step cycles, by pulling the fuse to the steps (On our coach, in the fuse box in the basement cabinet below the driver seat.). This sort of 'rebooted' the controller.
2) I also had some luck, having the wife open the door and pushing the control switch inside the door jamb on/off a few times, as I carefully reached in from the front of the coach, and tapped the electric window motor that runs the steps in/out. (Do be careful doing this, and be sure you and whoever is helping you with the door jamb button - are clear of moving steps and gears:)!).
I end up also replacing our motor. Which took care of it. If you go that route, hang onto your gear from the existing motor, as I ended up having to swap the old gear with the shallower gear that came on the replacement motor.
It's a great time to do heavy cleaning maintenance too. I used brake cleaner at first, sprayed liberally on all moving pieces. Then repeated a few times, and hit a few areas with a metal brush. Once that was done, I use dri lube spray on the moving pieces, and gears. I find dri lube does not attract and hold dirt and dust, like spray greases or silicone will.
Type 42, is the kind of steps in our era Allure.
Best of luck to you,
Smitty

I did take the door apart and cked everything out and all was fine. Cked the wire harness in door and that was good as well. I'll call Kevin and order a new motor if he doesn't have any more ideas
Thank for everyone's help
