Can you help me with the steps I should take in troubleshooting my gen set? It has been in storage for 4 months. I have it now at my home plugged in.. It turns over great and cycles, but just won't start.

Fuel gauge on dash is 3/4 full. Yes, it is time to change the fuel filters in the rear, but the engine started great and ran super on the way from storage to here.

It is an Onan model # HDKAK 8KW

Thanks,

John

Change generator fuel filter and air filter, and while your at it, oil and filter. While I do a good job replacing my gen fuel and oil filters every year, I have neglected the air filter a year or two, AND that kept generator from starting. Those air filters get incredibly dirty up there, I guess running down the road while running it for A/C. That has to be the dirtiest looking air filter I have ever seen in my life, just filthy. I do it every year now.

Thanks Rich. Kathy is on her way to get the filters now. Appreciate the quick response.

Did you see my response to your question about the exhaust manifold question? If not, I was mistaken. My Silverleaf has intake manifold temp. If that goes about (I think) 155 degrees, the engine starts shutting down.

Good luck finding the air filter at local auto parts store. I have to order those online, pretty special filter. I am Powertech though.

Basically just read the generator owner manual. I think you will find that it should be started and allowed to run for two hours under load every month. I have a 12.5 and recently had the 1000 hour overhaul.
