I am needing to replace the transfer switch. I noticed a bad electrical odor and discovered the transfer switch was so hot it actually started melting the plastic case. We are very fortunate to have caught this before the unthinkable occurred.
It is an Iota 50 amp switch with plastic case. I have heard that I should replace it with a metal case but not sure what the benefits would be. To me, hot is hot(?)
What are others using? Any specific manufacturers or brands that are better quality? Suggestions on metal vs plastic? Thanks all for your thoughts and assistance!

Steve,
We use the Surge Guard brand, for the basic version. Still comes in a plastic box!

I use Parallax. Very high quality metal case. Mine works perfectly after 11 years of heavy use.

Just an update on my faulty transfer switch. I replaced it with a TRC 50 amp transfer switch. They discovered the separate surge protector was also faulty and had to replace it also. The faulty switch was an Iota ITS-50R. The technician showed me the faulty parts and also explained to me that the Iota had only 10 gauge wire and was rated at 50 amp MAXIMUM...his opinion was that transfer switch was more suited for 30 amp units. The new TRC has 6 gauge wire (much heavier) and is definitely designed for 50 amp coaches. At any rate, it is all back together and running beautiful...
Thanks to all of you who responded and came to my assistance!
