I see in the higher end coaches there appears to be one. Is there one in the Inspire series? I have never heard of one or seen evidence it exists in my brief scans of the compartment.

Yes, you have one. It's either red or yellow and it accessible from just standing at the open engine compartment door.

All motorhome diesel engines have an emergency shut off. Even diesel engines in boats have an emergency shut off. That's to shut down a run away engine. Basically you shut down a diesel by depriving it of air or fuel. If it has those, it will run forever. (Simple explanation)

It should be noted that if you have a bad emergency shut off switch you will have trouble starting the engine. These switches can go bad with corrosion. When they do, it can be very time consuming and frustrating to narrow the problem source down. I know as I've had the problem. 5 days, 3 Cummins techs and a lot of head scratching. Especially when the switch contact corrosion only reared its head in the morning when the air was damp and cold

Also note that it's a powered switch...so there is a fuse for it...up front in the bay.
Thanks CC for the schematic.

I have a 2005 Inspire for about 2 months now, and have had the same question as Lon. I have looked all over my engine compartment and cant seem to see anything that looks like a switch or pushbutton or anything similar.

My 2007 Allure has the switch mounted over the engine...big red thing...hard to miss. Hit it to cut off engine...twist to reset.

In my 2007 Inspire, Cummins ISL400, I found a yellow handled shut off valve presently positioned in-line on the fuel line to the fuel/water seperator. fiter. Could that be thought of as a 'mechanical' switch to shut down the engine by starving it of fuel? Could not find any red push button switch.

As previously noted, not all models/years have an emergency shutdown button.

Although I have never had to do this, I've been told the best way to kill a "rogue diesel" engine is air starvation. I carry a nasty old towel in the driver's side rear compartment to place across the air intake grill. Very unlikely it will ever be used.

Is it possible that this emergency shutoff switch is only present on Cat engines?

I have a C9 and I am pretty sure I don't have it.
I am wondering if it is only on the models above Inspire, such as Intrigue, Allure, Magna.....
