Title: Slide topper
Post by: Tom Coomes on January 26, 2020, 02:14:40 pm
We have a Carefree of Colorado slide topper awning.  It appears the tension has been lost.  When the awning retracts the canvas does not rollup.  It just bunches up as the slide retracts.  Can the tension spring be replaced.  Can't seem to find anything online.
Thanks

Hi Tom,

I don't have Carefree awnings, but I'd say your awning spring is broken. I Googled and found the parts diagram on Carefree website, but the awning serial/model number would be helpful in your part search.

On my 2006 inspire the carefree awnings are the type that the same one that covers the slide is the one you roll out for the awning. If that describes yours you have to either put the awning out then retract or the simpler way that I have found that works id to pull out the strap (the one that would pull out the awning with) before retracting the slide. Years ago I was told that by carefree. I complained and they said I was using the awning  wrong. Apparently the strap gets tangled up if you don't at least pull it out of the housing.

Spraying the crud out and some silicone lube soaking worked wonders when ours weren’t winding up properly.  I do it every year now.
