Title: Exterior compartment open alarm
Post by: shelby6973 on July 03, 2020, 04:36:58 pm
We just picked a 2000 36 ft Magna and are getting a voice saying “exterior compartment open” but they’re closed.  What should I look at?  I already checked the sensors.  Thanks

On my 1995 magna, the plunger switch that turns off the compartment light when the bin door is closed also signals the computer that the door is closed.

I have adjusted and replaced said switches for your type of problem.

I've had to replace those some of those switches.  Got them from Kevin Waite.  You can start removing the wire from each switch to see which one is causing the problem.  Then try adjusting the switch position.  I have a temporary fix on one of mine.  Taped a penny to the door where it makes contact with the plunger switch.  That depressed the switch enough to open the circuit for that switch.

I found replacement switches at a local automotive audio store.  They had a drawer full of them.

I finally got around to troubleshooting the open compartment message and found loose connections in the front run box. There is a large red connector with white wires leading to the "diode board". Over the years, some of the crimped connections relaxed causing intermittent messages. Easy fix once you know where the problem is.
