Title: 2005 Allure 470 Siskiyou?
Post by: ejbeaty on October 30, 2020, 06:00:54 pm
Hi Folks,

My wife and I are on the hunt for a DP to replace the 5th wheel we've been full-timing in for the last three years. I've mostly been hunting for a 99-01 Foretravel but am starting to expand the search a bit.

A friend of the family recently offered us 2005 Allure 470 Siskiyou with 50k miles on the clock for $90k. Can anyone tell me a bit about this coach? Is that a decent price? Quality and reliability are the main reasons I'm interested in a Foretravel so I'd love to hear your opinions on how Country Coach stacks up in that regard. Also, are there common issues with these coaches that I need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance!
Elliott

I have a 2007 Allure 470 (37' Sunset Bay).  2005 for 90k is in the upper range of price points from my perspective.  However, condition of coach and maintenance records are key; a clean coach with superior maintenance records and upgrades may be worth 90k for a 2005.

All CC are better build quality than most - I would suggest Foretravel are a step above the Allure, but the Allure has great bones.

I have both units, 1998 36’ Foretravel for 10 years and now a 2003 38’ Intrigue for two years.

The Country Coach has a little better drive than my Foretravel but both handle very well and the Country Coach is a tag axle.

The Foretravel has a retarder instead of engine brake which I prefer but on long downgrades you have to be careful not get transmission too hot.

The Foretravel has disc brakes and my Country Coach has drum.  Disc are better but air brakes still stop you.

The Foretravel has better engine access to coach with the large opening.

The Country Coach has a built in silverleaf, info on current engine conditions.

The Country Coach Slides or built different and new seals are about 1,000 compared to $3,000 on Foretravel.

I wanted a tag axle to carry side by side or motorcycle on rear of coach and my daughter started taking trips with us with her dog and I wanted a little more room.  The Foretravels I looked at where running about 35% to 40% more than Country Coach and I could not Justify the extra cost.

The Foretravel Owners Forum is the best I seen they average about 35 post a day and owners are willing and able to help you with part numbers and problems.

Be sure to get an inspection no matter what you buy and with Foretravel make sure to check Bulkhead a very costly fix.
I would not hesitate to purchase either one of the Coaches and would even throw in a Monaco Executive or Dynasty.

Motor Homes of Texas has a 2005 Country Coach Allure now seems to be priced right.

This is great perspective, thank you. We toured the CC today and were pretty blown away by the amount of space. Is there somewhere I can look up the spec sheets for a CC? I'd like to know about tank capacities and such.

Also, as I understand it, these CC are on a chassis designed and manufactured by CC (dynamax). Is that correct? If so, is it difficult finding a qualified shop to work on chassis/drivetrain problems? Last question: do you know what engine/transmission they put in these? All I know is that "it's not the Cat engine"...so Cummins perhaps?

And I was wrong...the rig only has 50k miles on it

You can get all of the specs from the Brochures area of the site .... It will have the tank capacity's etc.  When comparing coaches across vendors you need to compare what you are getting from year to year and model to model as it can be pretty dynamic in what is actually in each coach.
