Title: A/C circuit breaker keeps popping
Post by: Winter Park Chateau on May 10, 2021, 04:04:05 pm
Our middle A/C unit keeps popping the circuit breaker after it's been on for a bit. Nothing special makes it pop. Sometimes it stays on for an hour, sometimes 1/2 hour. Sometimes 5 minutes. Any ideas of why or how to diagnosis?

Yes - I suspect the A/C is drawing excessive current - or the breaker is getting weak - or a combination of both.  A power monitor system (total coach or intellitec) may tell you your current draw.  If not available I would inspect capacitors in the A/C electrical housing in the A/C unit itself (getting on roof, and removing housing). Capacitors (start or run on Compressor or fan) can go bad drawing excessive current/short to ground.  Remember to isolate AC (120V) before opening up A/C.....

Hope this helps,
Brian

Are there any tricks or concerns in changing out the circuit breaker?
