Title: Replace steering gear box?
Post by: Woodted on June 16, 2021, 10:44:49 am
I'm buying a 2000 CC Magna with 127,000 miles on it and the steering box does not leak and it's pretty tight. What I'm wondering is it a good idea to replace the steering box as a precautionary measure? Has anyone replaced one just to be proactive?

I sold my 1999 Magna with 217,000 miles two years ago with the original box and the new owner is still driving with it.

Replaced my steering gear box on 2001 Magna, what a pain.  The box weighs about 110 lbs.  Had to buy some tools (everything is much bigger)  Did the replacement in the driveway, no choice since the seals blew out when I pulled in.  Took a whole day on my back and a good floor jack.  Bought part through Weller Truck Parts.
