Title: Windshields popping out
Post by: Woodted on July 27, 2021, 09:51:03 pm
I just bought a 2000 CC Magna with the split windshields and on the way home they both started coming out of the gasket. I took it to a windshield repair facility and they told me there must be structural damage as the center piece between the windshields is not connected to the upper cap. Is this true? does the center piece support the windshield frame?

I had the exact same experience with my '98 CC Concept. We had never ending windshield problems with our previous coach, a '92 Overland 38'. I looked at the Concept really closely before purchasing and it looked perfect. Halfway home along the Penn Turnpike I started hearing wind noise and finally realized the windshield had started popping out on the drivers side top. Stopped for fuel and picked up a roll of duct tape. It was the thinest most useless tape I've ever used. A few miles later I stopped at a Lowes and walked out with a step ladder and several rolls of Gorilla duct tape. I managed to get it to hold until we got home.

It turns out that the lower part of the front cap was replaced (which I new) but was not connected on the outer pillars of the windshield. That center piece is also not connected at the top or bottom. I don't think the centerpiece provides much structural support but I'm sure it keeps the upper and lower from moving independently.

I did speak with a tech at CC back in 2018 and he said they could remove the windshields, repair the fiberglass, replace the windshield and touch up the paint for around $2500. We never found the time to make a trip to Oregon from Kentucky to do this work so I still have problems. I think I am going to try and tackle it myself and have a windshield company reinstall the windows with new gaskets.

Best,
David
