Title: Sharp Microwave/Convection Failing
Post by: stevebufty on January 28, 2022, 11:44:23 pm
Our good old reliable Sharp Carousel Microwave/Convection oven Model R-1850A is starting to fail. It is still working as a microwave although it seems to be at a lower than usual power level but the turntable has suddenly stopped working. Without making major (or even minor) cabinetry modifications, is there a replacement unit that we can have installed in place of this original equipment in our 2002 Intrigue 36-footer? What have others done?
Thanks, Steve (#11382)

Hi Steve,

It might not solve the entire issue, but I changed the turntable motor in our same model some years ago without much trouble. Access Is through the bottom and is accessible without removing the microwave from the mount. I laid a hand mirror on the stove top. I also have a PDF of the service manual if you need it. Just PM me.

Watching. Our convection part of the microwave is also on the fritz. Just keeps running when it's supposed to warm up.

Steve, I have not actually attempted to replace my Sharp yet but its days our numbered so I've been looking around. It appears to me that all these OTR microwave convection ovens are about the same width, slightly less than 30 in. Height and depth may vary a bit so I would think other than the mounting brackets etc you could choose almost anyone to replace the Sharp. Someone who is actually done this might know better about installation issues with other brands and models. Personally, I would not choose the Sharp since there are multiple other brands out there with much larger capacity than the 1.1 cubic feet of the Sharp's current replacement model.

Richard, thanks for your comments. I will look into other microwave units that may fit the space. I have a call in to Olstrom Custom Coach to consult abut this among other needed repair items.
