Title: CAT C12 Black soot in exhaust
Post by: gball on March 23, 2024, 05:09:22 pm
Hello all,
I noticed the exhaust tube is coated in black soot and am wondering if it is something to be concerned about.  I've seen soot in the past but this seems blacker and completely coated.

Thank you.
Glen

The C12 in my 02 Magna has always blown black smoke on initial acceleration at altitude. It was into CAT three times 17 years ago. In the end, after changing out the barometric sensor, CAT central said it's normal, it's the fuel mapping. However, a year or so ago another owner with an 02 Magna/C12 said his doesn't blow smoke.

Thanks for the reply, Richard.
I didn't notice any smoke, just the exhaust being completely covered in black soot on the inside.  I am at altitude (St George Utah area)  so maybe that is why I noticed the difference.  The engine is running great up the hills so....

Thanks again.
