I really appreciate the information in this forum. It has been a great help. However, this Yahoo Groups setup really is frustrating. Is there any way to search for already discussed threads? If not why can't this forum be moved to a decent Google format to make it much more usable? Glen Burgess

Hi George,
At the top of the page you will see a box with Search Conversations in it. Type the topic you are searching and then hit ENTER. You can do a Boolean search such as air+leak or road+king+shocks.

I ( third that ) this sucks, also why do we need to repeat ourselves so many times. & why can't it start with the question at hand & then the answers below like we had a long time ago.

This forum's format is poor and outdated. The CC owner's forum on iRV2 is a great example of better! I've used the Avion travel trailer forum Silveravion on yahoo and it's somewhat better, but doesn't match others like Good Sam's Open Roads Forum on rv.net. I hope these comments keep this thread active and gain some attention. Rob '98 CC 36' Allure #30146

I agree that yahoo forums are poorly designed. I plan to post a poll soon to find out how our members use the group -- primarily how many members post messages via email. No need to comment yet.
Yahoo Pro's:
* Huge message base
* Supports submission by email (which does not allow message categorization) * Free (no software yearly license -- most popular software for hosting a forum is vBulletin at $400 per year) * No server hosting fees ($150 per year) * No domain fees ($20 per year)
* No significant Mac Truck problems -- Moderator gets killed by Mac Truck -- all services are in his/her name. Yahoo can transfer moderation. The site is not owned by an individual or corporation (e.g. Good Sam, Hydrohot service tech, etc) * No paid advertising that we need to search for, and collect money from, because Yahoo is free.
VBulletin or others software Pro's: * Messages are categorized into threads.
* Sticky messages
* Website can be configured to a greater degree than Yahoo * Supports Android and Apple apps.
* Better moderator tools
I believe the biggest problems that need to be solved are: * Financial support for software, hosting and domain * Emergency Mac Truck plan for site owner * Email submission
* Education
Over the years technology has changed. No longer do we queue up in the RV Park office to send email postings over a dialup modem! It may be time for change.

almost every about yahoo is terrible. It amazes me that the company has even survived. They almost never update or improve anything and bugs can go forever without being fixed. Remember a time when Yahoo "search engine" was the cat's meow? Today it is a farce. Google came along and obliterated them and they never even TRIED to keep up. Their forums are the same. I really like the membership on this forum but the functionality is pretty bad.

The participation is growing at IRV2.com on its Country Coach Owners Forum.
It is much easier to use.
Many of the other IRV2 forums contain valuable motor home and engine discussion.

Not trying to defend Yahoo Groups -- because they tried to make their web pages too automated/fancy for their britches -- but using Internet Explorer when I search the over 96,700 messages for "herbstrandberg", this is what I found:
It presents a scroll bar and a large number of results then it stop until you grab the scroll slider and move it downward. It will generate/present additional results while the text scrolled upward. I scrolled back to 2006 and then decided to see what would happen if I printed the "page". It quickly generated a 77 page queued print file with results from the last 12 years back to 2002.
But it is still ugly. As moderator I have similar problems dealing with the list of more than 3500 members -- and its search is not that great.

Joe - Yahoo is definitely old technology. Plus they have had security issues over the years. Searching for information is difficult at best.
But, as an email, based venue it's easy and familiar to use. I've tried to make some inroads into providing a more robost and newer format with my blog. But it's been an uphill climb. The membership here is great and I think their knowledge can be better served with newer software.
Just my two cents. Safe travels to one and all.

Scott and all,
This is from what so many have experienced, not the best. But, it is so great when you're in trouble! With few exceptions, I'm pretty sure when one of us is in a big bind, somebody knows the possible answers or how to find help fast. In addition, we have various folks who are there for us too, such as Kevin, Butch and others. This information we know from our blog. We are so grateful for the many folks who do write, and we wish we would have a gathering of anyone in the blog who wants to see who is who! Well, that's an aside, but the serious point I mean is that though it's not the best by far, it sure does help.
Thanks to everyone.

One PS here - to the newer folks -- please post your coach type and number so that we can know if it is something we know about or can help specific folks. Thanks.

Hello all,
For us non-technocrat's I find that the yahoo forum works fantastic as an email based forum. Even though I am not on it a lot, I read almost all post. I looked at the iRV2 site and found that the advertising is very distracting. Mary Frederick's previous post on the subject says it all. I can not thank everyone enough for the information that is posted on this forum. I also can understand the frustration of the more advanced technocrat's and their searches. That being said, I would not like to see a change. Kindest regards and safe travels.
