We have a coach on order and have to make a decision between a convection oven and an Advantium oven. Since we have not owned either of these types of ovens, we are looking for some recommendations from current users. Any advice?

Bobbi: I don't know about the Advantium oven, but we have an Intrigue with a convection oven and my wife really does not like it. She laments that she is used to having a good ole oven that she knows how to operate.
The disadvantage of the convection is the seemingly endless time it takes to preheat and the lack of control over what is happening. The controls are simple, just follow the prompts and it works, but the noise it makes while you wait for a long time for pre-heat are the biggest complaints.

Advantium oven is the best.

I had the convection in my previous coach and loved it. Takes a little learning to use, but I could cook anything in it that I could in a conventional oven.

I now have the Advantium. I prefer the convection. The main difference in the two, from my perspective, is that with the convection I could turn the turn-table off and bake a 13' x 9' cake or corn bread in my cast iron skillet. I could also bake a layer cake using the racks. With the Advantium, the turn-table cannot be turned off, so you cannot use large cooking dishes, and there are no racks to bake 2 layer cakes. As a Texan that loves good cornbread, I had the handle cut off my cast iron skillet so I could use it in the Advantium.

I have not used the Advantium nearly as much as I did the convection. If you take the time to learn to use it, and don't need the large dishes, I am sure that it would be just fine. I carry a large toaster oven that I do most of my baking in.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Our convection oven on our Intrigue has convience my wife that she wants to change out the microwave and home with the same make of convection oven we have on the RV. Of course at first she hated the thing, until she learned how to use it and how flexable it really is.

The Advantium is 4 ovens in one - a microwave, convection, conventional, and halogen-speed-cook. If you want to use it as a conventional oven (for example for baking a cake or pie) just set the temperature and time and it will pre-heat and cook just like an old fashioned oven will. If you want to microwave, it can do that too. The Advantium has hundreds of popular foods pre-programed for using the halogen speed cook function. Speedcook requires no pre- heating and cooks with energy by using halogen lights to directly heat the food. Speedcook does NOT generate excessive heat to warm the coach during hot summer days, so we try to use speedcook as much as possible during the summer to save on electricity and reduce our air conditioner usage - my wife's asthma is bothered by the cold air from the air conditioners.

In our eyes, the Advantium is the only way to go because it gives us the best of 4 different ovens in the space of one.

Have you used the oven this way? It might work, but would it damage the oven?
