Dick: The problem with a permanent locking mechanism on the slide awning is the inevitable user failure, No?
If we forget to go outside and unlock the slide awning prior to opening the slide......goodby locking mechanism or damage to the awning.
I have (had) a nifty little oak box that holds my remotes that somehow got down behind the driver seat and in the way of the slide as I opened it. Not only did it break the box to smithereens, but also cracked the oak piece on the slide. I was able to fix everything, but I don't want to add another potential item to my pre-flight list.
Lets face it, I'm just learning to put the antenna down and I've been in motor homes for over 40 years!

the inevitable user failure, No? (snip) Oops ... sorry; I thought that the unfurling discussion was in relation to the main/patio awning. I didn't realize that so many were having such a problem with their slideout awnings (we don't have a slideout). And I think that the aftermarket items won't work with other than main/patio awnings.
I also agree that a passive device is more advantageous. As long as it works .
