Title: Travel to the Chicago Area

I'm going to be in the Chicago area next month and want to visit with a friend in the Downers Grove area. I know of only one campground that is even a little near there and it is in Rockford, IL...88 miles away from my friend's home. Has anyone camped anywhere closer to Downers Grove?

Thanks,

Carol

Carol, in response to 50 in Colorado---enjoy it- I do not think it is as bad as say Hwy. 550 from Durango to Ouray. We have been over just about every pass in Colorado with our gas coaches and have made several with our '99 Allure. 50 is a beautiful drive---enjoy, enjoy.
Just got back from the Denver but did not have time to get into the mountains on this trip.

Chicago area--in the 80's we were in Chicago for 9 summers straight.
There is a campground in Marengo and there was a KOA also in that area. There is a campground on the Fox River, I believe it is a state park, much closer and nice.
Hope this helps,
Egon

Carol -

Check out the Sycamore RV Park in Sycamore., IL. It will cut your drive down quite a bit if you are going to Downers Grove. You are still looking at close to an hour's drive to DG from the park but it is at least 45 minutes closer than being in Rockford. The phone number is 815 895-5590 and usually Anita answers the phone.
The park is maybe 10 minutes north of I-88 which is the way you would go to get to Downers Grove. The exit off I-88 you would take is the Peace Rd. exit.
If you decide to go this route, let me know and I can give you more specific directions. We are staying at the park now - When do you plan to be in the Chicago area? Would love to meet a member of the forum.

If I can be of any other help - Just let me know.

Thanks, Kathy,

I won't be leaving Indiana until about the 20th of June to head North, so, unless you plan to be at Sycamore until then,I'm afraid we will miss each other this time. 8-( Are you going to the Class Reunion? I plan to be there. Itinerary right now includes the stops in Rockford and Chicago, to Minnesota and then off to Oregon via Sioux Falls in the end of July/beginning of August. Am going to the Class Reunion, a rally at Guaranty and the FMCA rally. Then to an August 30 appointment at JC Factory Service to have the fuel tank replaced and other things fixed.

Hope to catch up with you on the road someday!

Carol

Hi Carol -

Just not sure when we will be leaving Sycamore but we just might be passing in the dark so to speak.
To give you a little background - We are here helping our son with a business and have been for the last year!!! We keep telling him we need to get on with life and then there is one issue/crisis or another that pops its head up. But we sincerely feel it is time to do what we want to do so and sometime in June is our desired departure date. I have an invite from a friend in Chicago for June 24 and 25 and would really like to do this "girls" thing so we may be here still!!
At any rate - I have not paid for the Class Reunion yet but we do hope to make it. My parents live in the State of WA and I do need to get there to see them. Haven't been there since last August. They are 89 and 87 respectively so I am really lucky to have them both. I can't even imagine life without them.
So that is my story in a nut shell. If you want a brochure on the park, drop me a line with your address and I will send you one. We are Escapees and use good old Livingston, TX as our home base. How about you.
If we miss in Chicago, then hopefully the Class Reunion will be "it" so to speak. Do you travel by yourself?

Kathy

If you are still there when I come that way, then I'll be sure to camp at Sycamore so we can meet. So as to not take up too much time for others who read the posts, if you like, you can send me an email and I can tell you more about my plans. jennylind2000@... (jennylind2000@...) I'd send you an email, but you have intelligently kept your email address confidential. LOL

Looking forward to meeting you.

Oh, yeah...the class reunion. Don't they have a limit on the number of members who can attend? I was thinking that they do so if you don't register soon, you may be too late. Just an idea. This is my first CC rally, but the previous brand I owned had a limit on the number of attendees.

Hi Carol, I talked with Katrina in the CCI office in JC and she told me that they have 150 reservations out of a 450 limit of attendees. So there is still plenty of space and time to register. We are working our way across country trying to miss all of the storms.

Candace, hi to you and Dale,

Good luck missing the storms, that is all it has been doing in Mich, we have had double the normal rain (over 8").
We are leaving Sat for Arizona, with a detour in Oklahoma to pick up a new Border Collie pup.

Life will get more interesting for a while, I guess.
Check him out:

It will be good to get out again.
take care, safe travels,

Carol,

I don't think there is any limit on coaches at the Class Reunion because they have plenty of room where it is helded. However, other rallies do have limits due to space. Everyone should go to CCI rallies because they will learn about the coach they are driving and get some service done. I hear lots of people that say they are not rally people, and I am glad, that just means more food and service for those who are rally people. It also make this web site more interesting.
