Hi all. I am Russell H Mahoney, owner of a 2000 CC Magna that is 1.5 years old. I am currently homeless on the beach in Yachats OR watching the waves pound the shore while waiting for bathroom tile repairs to set. They may finish my service call by weeks end, when I will start a summer of travel up the coast to the north end of Vancouver island. Then I'm off to the Life on Wheels conf in Moscow ID, CCI rally in OR and the FMCA OR rally.

You are right. I did the modification myself. It involves removing two in-line orifices from one of the hydraulic lines to the fan and replacing with CC-supplied fittings. A side benefit is an increase in mpg.

Hi: We are Don and Kay. We bought 2001 CCI #11238 in Oct.,2000.
We have had some battery problems as oft-times listed. Just last week I replaced the Exide(GNB) batteries with Interstate 8D deep cycles. We will see this week how they work. Like many of the previously mentioned problems, our batteries would not fully charge (via hydrometer) and would discharge very rapidly. One of the links mentioned resetting the Invertrix to different defaults. What are they?

Hi All,
My wife and I are new members to this group, as well as new Country Caoch owners. We are the 3rd owners of a beautiful 91 Country Coach. Low miles and it was taken wonderful care of by the previous 2 owners. We both have always loved the Country Coach product line and finally were able to locate a quality older unit.
Once we are able to retire, we plan on getting a new unit, God willing!!

Since finding this site thru the latest copy of DESTINATIONS a few weeks ago, I too have just completed reviewing the 1100+ postings and express my thanks and congratulations to the site originator and former moderator and current moderator for an excellent service to all CC owners. Own a 36ft '95 Magna Tribute which I have lived in for most of the last four years. Has been a superb coach for me. How about a gathering of web site participants/readers at the FT.Benning rally? Thanks to Al for welcoming me to theis group which I just learned is in existence. I have owned two Intrigues, a1997 and my current 2000. Frankly, I wish I still had the '97, as I have had all kinds of problems with the 2000. The latest is the Hurricane furnace which flames out quite often. I live in Texarkana, Ar. where we don't usually winterize, rathe make sure to turn on the heat if a hard freeze is predicted. We recently had two nights in succession in the teens, and I ended up running an electric heater since I couldn't trust the furnace and it was too cold for the heat pumps. I still had water lines freeze somewhere, but , fortunately, I don't seem to have sprung any leaks.
I'm going to the Ft. Benning and Perry rallies and hope I can get this problem solved. Am I by myself, or can anyone give me a tip? I changed fuel and air filters and have tried the bleed valve closed and in various stages of open. I can't get at the nozzle because some engineering genius placed the furnace too close to a bulkhead. I did notice that this is changed in the 2002's.
I think this chat group is a great idea and look forward to sharing problems and solutions.

Walt,
Had the same problem. Called the Hurricane distributor. He instructed me over the phone and had me remove a part in the nozzle or just before the nozzle. It's about the size of a bullet and he said it was installed for marine applications and was not needed on a motorhome. I could get to it easily because the nozzle was not near the bulkhead. There is a phone number painted on the control panel. Call that number and ask for a tech. The person I talked to was Jim I believe. The part we removed restricted the fuel supplied to the burner. Once I got the bleeder adjusted (left open about a half turn), no problems.

Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member who is posting for the first time. I've been reading the messages on this website for the last 6 months but up until this moment have not joined the conversations. This has to be one of the nicest users I've encountered; I have never seen any of you flame each other; very refreshing.
A little background on myself:
I do not currently owned a Country Coach (or any RV for that matter). I hope that is not a problem with you all.
I just sold my house; escrow to close at the end of Dec.
I'm in the market to buy a motor home and I'm seriously considering a Country Coach; my top choice
I'm 45, divorced, no kids, middle-age crazy, quitting my job (early next year), never RV'd before, and deciding to go "fulltiming"
Having said all that, I've done a ton of research (since Feb of this year) and narrowed my choices of RV's down to Bluebird (used), Foretravel (used), Newell (used), and Country Coach (new or used).
I've also joined RV Consumer Group, visited lots of dealers, attend RV shows, joined Open Roads Forum (I recognize Per from that group), read a few RV books, join Escapees, and test drove about a dozen RV's.
The reason for this e-mail is that I think I've come to the conclusion I would like to buy a new 2003 CC Allure, 36' Sunriver with 370hp engine. It is a little more than what I wanted to spend on a motor home; approx. $190k.
I'm nervous and excited about the magnitude of what I'm comtemplating.
What do you all think? In particular of my choice in motor homes and whether that is a decent price for a new CC Allure. Would I be doing better by buying a used Magna or Affinity for that price?
Thanks in advanced for your responses and I look forward to chatting with you all (if it is okay until I purchase my CC).
Rick

Welcome, Rick. Not knowing the list price of the 03 Allure you're looking at it's hard to determine a fair purchase price, but I'm inclined to think $190k is a very good price based on what I paid for a 2003 Allure 40'. I compliment you on your approach to making your first RV purchase.

Hi Rick,
The Country Coach you are considering is a fine vehicle but please. please, please be very cautious before you commit to this major life style change.
A motor home is not an appreciating asset. It goes down in value every month and the lost money will never come back.
As you have never owned and RV before there is quite a possibility that you will not like your new life style. If that happens you will be stuck trying to sell a very expensive unit for a big discount.
I strongly recommend you rent a smaller gas unit (24 - 32ft) and spend four months on the road and in different campgrounds/RV parks.
This will allow you to enjoy the life style, meet owners and get the feel of driving a coach by yourself. (Of course this wouldn't apply if you already have a CDL and have experience with eighteen wheelers).
If that goes well and you are fully hooked on the RV lifestyle consider purchasing a good used Allure or Intrigue and put the money you save in a safe place. (BTW I recommend you stay at 36ft length if you do not have a copilot.)
Then move to a new unit when funds permit and you know exactly what options you desire.
None of us get it right the first time. In fact the average RV'er will have seven units in a life time and you can bet their option list changed over that time as they became experienced.
I am sure there are sales people who would love to sell you a new Allure right now although I doubt you will get a 2003 even close to $190K.
Be careful buddy. Our coach came to us by way of someone who was in exactly the same position you are. He drove it hardly seven thousand miles and it spent much of the first year in storage. He then decided it was not his lifestyle and we got the one year old used coach at a big discount.

Rick,
What is the list price of the Allure, that you say is $190k. Many people over spend on their first motor coach because the salesman never tells them his lowest price. I always figure at least 20% off of the MSRP with 22 % being average and 24% being very good. Over 24% is usually a show unit or a unit that has been around for a while. We have always ordered our units at a major show and got about 22% off. We never purchase a show unit bscause I don't like unit that have been played with by 1000s of people.
I also don't believe you will be able to purchase a Magna or Affinity for 190k unless it's around 5 years old with not many options. We have a 2001 Magna that we have refinanced for the 5th time in 2 years (this time at 5.95) and the banks keep telling
us the loan value is well above $275k. Good luck on your search for a motor coach that suits your needs. I think your making the right choise with a CC.

Rick...welcome to the group! You're doing things the right way...by doing all this research, no matter what you buy, you will be buying what is right for YOU. There is no perfect coach...just ones that are more appropriate for one person over another.
We took the plunge almost 2 years ago, having NEVER RV'd...sold the home and everything in it, retired, and bought a 2001 new Intrigue.
Yes, like most of us, we spent more than we had first figured out, but with the help of forum members, we outfitted our rig with things that without their input we would never have...like the NuHeat tile floors! We've never regretted anything about our change to this lifestyle, or our choice of rig. (We were a bit prejudiced towards CC because my parents had one for 8 years and loved it.) We think CC makes one of the best coaches out there. For us the floorplan and storage were key, and we feel that we have more storage in our Intrigue than any other model out there. Yes, we've had minor problems here and there, but CC and their web of dealers has been excellent in getting things resolved quickly and easily. I can highly recommend them.
Best of luck with your new lifestyle...as someone told us when we were getting ready to do this: "Come on in, the water's fine!"

Hi Walt,
Thanks for the greeting. I'm not if nuts what I'm comtemplating or being smart. Time will tell.
The list price for the 03 Allure, 36' Sunriver is $275k. Only a few options come with this coach; they are:
370hp engine
Bose sound system
Color back-up monitor system
Padded vinyl ceiling
Tile entry
It's suppose to be the last of the 03 models set-up like this. Everything from now on is suppose to be the First Avenue Allure.

Hi David & Karen,
Thanks for the response. Your advice is much appreciated about the lifestyle change and the coach. The reason I'm going for it in one shot is that I will probably not have the opportunity to buy such a nice coach again as I do not plan on returning to the "corporate" lifestyle. I need to get away from the high pressure job of being a Program Manager and live more. All it feels like I'm doing is grinding it out until I hit retirement. I work 50-60 hours a week, do not get enough exercise, fight the Los Angeles traffic, have no love life, etc. Sounds like a recipe for a heart attack. And I will be damn pissed if I work until retirement and then collapse dead from a heart attack.
So, I'm going for it now and, hopefully, living a healthier lifestyle; even if means living with less; won't be the worst mistake if it doesn't work out.
I'd love to get la deal ike you all got but I don't know where to find these deals. How did you come across your great deal?

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the response. The list price is $275. I don't believe this particular unit has been at the shows. Very clean on the inside with approx. 1100 miles on the coach. Everything worked flawlessly on the test ride (everything I tested, which wasn't much). Very, very impressed with the way the CC drives and handles considering I have very little experience driving motor homes. What a difference between a used Bluebird I test drove and this one.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for that vote of confidence. I could use the reinforcement. Glad to hear others have done what I'm comtemplating. Some of my friends at work think I'm crazy; that I'm throwing it all the way. For some reason, I just can't do that line of work anymore and can't see myself putting another 15 years and grinding it out. Life is to short to do something you don't like.
As the for the coach, I am kind of cutting out a few steps but hopefully saving myself some money with going with exactly what I want. It appears to be too expensive to find out your RV doesn't satisfy you needs or wants. My biggest concern with motor homes is the reliablility of them. I just hope I don't have to much problems with mine.
Rick
Yahoo Message Number: 3274 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/3274)
Rick,
I don't know of anyone with a motor home who hasn't had problems, the new coaches usually come with numerous built-in problems. Doesn't matter whether you buy the cheapest class C or the most expensive Class A. I have never met anyone who owns a motor home who hasn't spent the first few months of ownership trying to wring out the problems which QC missed at the factory....maybe they don't have QC at the factory. I think that most coach builders think it is cheaper to leave the QC process to the new owner of the mh than to do it at their factory. So, expect to spend many hours over the 1st year at service centers, so it is important to buy from a dealer who has great service facilities where you can relax while waiting for your unit to be perfected.....But, even that part of the experience is fun, you meet a lot of nice people at the service centers, you learn a lot about your mh that way also. For those without a job this is not really a problem but I really don't know how those who are still working get through this phase of owning a mh....

Hi, Rick.
Here's another point of view:
Go For It!
I retired at 5 years ago at 55..... (why did I wait so long?) My only experience with RV's was renting a class C 20 years ago. I did the type of research that you are doing...... maybe not as in-depth.
We (my wife and I) bought a 1998 CC Intrigue... the best that we felt fit our tastes, desires and budget..... with some "advice" from a relative who has owned a Bluebird for 15 years... . After owning that coach for 4 years and 50,000 miles we traded for a new Intrigue. From what we have heard around there are few better than CC and none without problems. Remember this.... a motorhome is a house with it's headaches and a truck with it's headaches. And the house has to survive minor "earthquakes" on every trip.
That being said, after our 5th year of trips of between 5 and 6 months I say there's fun to be had out there...... don't miss it. And, as one of the wiser owners who wrote to you said.... rent for a few months (or weeks) to see if the life style is for you.

Rick, if you can buy an 03 Allure with a list price of $275k for $195k you should run, not walk, to the dealership and buy it. Something just doesn't sound right about this as a $275k price for a 36 ft is pretty well loaded. My 40 ft with tag listed for $305 and it was a show coach pretty well loaded. I don't know who your dealer is but there is one out west that is known for dirty tactics,i. e. when you sit down to close the deal they renege on the proce quoted to you by the salesman. Be wary!
Also, while I may be prejudiced, I think the unit you are looking at is far better looking than the First Avenue.

Rick,
I had the pleasure of meeting Dick and his wife last October when in JC.
Take it from me, they both look a lot lot younger then the age Dick quotes. Must be a sign that the lifestyle agrees with them
I made it out of the rat race at 54 and have never regretted stopping even though our cash flow obviously changed for the worse.
Maintaining a positive cash flow is not as easy when there is no regular job, especially when you have to deal with Enron, Worldcom and other investing issues.
Retiring as early as 45 means there are, hopefully, a lot more of your years that have to be funded and a lot of medical insurance payments until Medicare kicks in at 65 or maybe 67 in your case.
Don't burn any bridges and don't pass up the opportunity to do a little consulting or part time work from time to time.
Good luck with your decision.

Rick, that's a great coach and it would be perfect for your needs. We have the same coach at our dealership, even with all factory rebates, I can't touch that price. So, Walt has a good point "Be wary"?. p.s. Let us be fair about pricing. I have absolutely no sympathy for the many lousy dealers out there who charge high prices and mostly give lousy service. Yet there are many good dealers out there. Even if Fred is right that there is a 30% markup aren't they entitled to a profit? How else can they stay in business &/or provide good service?
Yahoo Message Number: 3301 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/3301)
Each deal is different and as most of us are not dealership financial managers or general managers we will never know the actual details of a transaction and in most cases I doubt the salesperson in the trenches knows either.
I do think a buyer without a coach to trade has an advantage, especially if that person chooses a popular floor plan and can be a little flexible on options and colors and is not worried about being close to the selling dealer in the future. Even so, the dealer is not in the business of selling coaches at a loss so there is still going to be a minimum price they will deal on.
Of greater personal concern to me right now is the escalating MSRP on newer coaches and the corresponding widening of the gap between my trade in value and the cost of a new unit.
I like the new 2003 First Avenue editions but may have to wait until 2010 and buy one used!

Rick
First welcome to the group. I am far from having the wealth of experience that many in this group have. So, all I can offer is my own personal experience and observations.
Many years ago (early to mid 80's) my wife and I belonged to a motor home club that had coaches that we could rent at a reduced rate. BTW a great comncept while the coaches were new and well maintained.
From this experience we always wanted to travel the country, but could never justify ownership for a maximum use for a couple of weeks per year. I got my need for camping fulfilled by becoming a scout leader for 23+ years. But the wife could not take the roughing it.
A couple of years ago we began looking at ways to look forward to retirement and make some adjustments to some of our retirement goals. After, 35+ years traveling all over the globe for my job, I decided I wanted no more to do with the hassles of airports, rental cars, hotels and resturants. We decided to pursue the purchase of a motor home and retire early January 2004.
We spent just over a year looking, asking questions, doing research and joining such groups as this to help us narrow down the field. My wife had certain things she wanted in the coach and I had mine. She went more for the decor and I went for more of the mechanical things. We decided on the type of traveling we wanted to do and tried to match those desires to the type of coach.
We will retain our home here in Florida as a home base and do extended travel. We want to do extended travel for up to 3-4 months at a time if the desire strikes us. Our stays would not be long term, but 3-5 nights in one place at a time maximum. Our selection had to be suitable to take the constant abuse of the frequent road traveling. It also had to endure and be easy to setup and tear down each time.
We began to narrow our selection down> A big block diesel with a diesel generator was a basic requirement. We began looking at new units and we quickly discovered ....too expensive and began looking for a used unit with reasonable mileage and a maximum of 5 years old. After looking at Itasca, Journey and a few other Fleetwood and Freightliner frames, I quickly discovered I wanted nothing to do with them. They all seemed to be overloaded for the chasis and the handling was not what I wanted.
I discovered a few articles by Bob Gummersall on used RV comparisons and other tidbits. I began emailing him back and forth and quickly discovered that we should look for a used diesel coach. We bagan looking at used Newmar, Monaco, Beaver, Country Coach and Foretravel. In order to make a comparison we first went to some of the large highline coach dealers before we began looking at small lots and private sales. Here in Florida, Lazy Days in Tampa offered the best selection in one place. I understand that Beaudry in AZ also is a huge dealer in these type coaches as well.
We spent a number of months looking and finally narrowed in on a used 2000 Country Coach Allure Chandler floor plan. It is 40' and has a ISC Cummins, single slide floor plan that would allow a little more room, yet not be adding weight through additional slides like some today. I saw no need for a bedroom slide for an area that is only used for sleeping. The front slide offered the roominess needed for enjoying company and doing things inside.
The previous owner had taken good care of it and had already worked out the bugs with all the warranty work. We purchased it this past June and have throughly enjoyed it. We can't wait until we retire so that we can really put it on the road. While even a used diesel coach is expensive and you can never justify the economics of ownership, you just have to accept that the cost is for the lifestyle you want to enjoy. I felt it was needless to take the huge up front depreciation hit and did not want to have the headaches of working out the bugs that is in every coach.
We purchased our coach just over NADA wholesale, which was almost 25% off the retail sticker & NADA price. Based on MSRP of the coach new, the overall cost was almost half for a 2-1/2 year old coach.
Whatever you decide and pick, I am sure it is right for you and you will enjoy it. Good luck......

For Nancy and I, the bedroom slide was a necessity as we plan to FT next year. While the coaches are getting roomer with floor plans and slides they are still small compared to a "stick" house. So we wanted a bedroom where one of could go to work or have some individual "space". The bedroom slide helps by giving us a room for computer work, sewing, and other projects (fun and work) where we don't feel "closed in". So far we haven't seen the need for the 3rd or 4th slide, but I'm sure others have. One of the nice things about RVing is that we have so many choices in coaches, where we are going to park and the like.

Another opinion....
A bedroom slide... in some floor plans... allows for a very large closet without having to go to a longer coach. On the other hand the additional slide adds weight, equipment and the associated potential for failure of that equipment (and that's from someone who has had more than his share of hydraulic problems).

Ray,
You are right! For those of us still working steady, long hours, high responsibility jobs, getting these "little" things fixed is a bear. Having said that, I will also say that I don't care how hard it is to get the coach there, AS LONG AS THEY FIX IT. What really used to drive Patti and I crazy was when we took it to get fixed, it sat at the dealer for WEEKS and no one touched it unitl I called to see how it was going, then they madly slapped a few things together and said it was done. Or the classic, we ordered parts but Winnebago didn't send them, ie blame the Manufacturer. Anyway, Guaranty has been wonderful and fixed everything the FIRST FIRST FIRST time, and yes, the 120 mile drive to get it fixed is a pain, but at least it's fixed.
What we have been doing is camping on the way down (Friday night) then turn it in on Sat drive back home in toad, then leave for whole week and pick up Friday night. Camp Friday/Sat, then drive back home.
This wa at least we an use it on weekends.

Hi Jim,
Thank you for the warm welcome and the story of the journey & experiences you went thourgh to arrive at the coach you have today. I love reading stories like yours and others that explain the journey/process they went through to determine the coach that was the best fit for themselves. It is because of these experiences of others that I have determined why I want the coach I want. In a lot of ways you all are saving me money in that I going right to the "end-state".
That is, instead of going through the experiences most of you have gone through in that you started with a pop-up, then to a class C, then to a fifth-wheel, and to a gas class A, and finally to a diesel class A; I'm going right to what I hope to be the ideal high-end, diesel coach for me. The drawback to all this, is that I didn't get to enjoy the journey, as most of you have; and I didn't gain the needed experience you all have. In effect I am leveraging off your collective experience and wisdom; I'm grateful for this.

Hi Bob & Nancy,
I've come to a similar conclusion that I would like a bedroom slide. The reason for this is, is that I like the full, length wise closet along the back of the coach. I have a large wardrobe of pants, collared shirts, jackets, etc. and I prefer to hang them all. It is more important to me than the additional basement space and I want to stay with a 36' length coach.
I also agree with your assessment about a 3rd and 4th slide. I don't see the need for them in my particular situation; they won't be of any additional value to me.

Hi to all. Bill & Cathy Burford here from Phoenix, AZ. '99 Allure 36' that we both just love. Not many problems except the fight I had last week going to Las Vegas with a errant buzzard. Not sure where he got his flying lessons from but he and my passenger mirror decided to butt heads. The good guys at the parts dept. helped me out and I should have new glass in this week. Looking forward to getting good advice from fellow CC owners. Talk to you later.

Those are great posts. I am new to the forum, still getting familiar with everything. I have been involved in bus repair for 4 years but I am fairly new to the motorhome scene. Previously, I maintained public transportation. I just recently made the move from maintenance to sales. I will try to offer any assistance or answers that I can. So far tonight, reading the previous posts, I have learned some things. If I don't know the answer, chances are I know someone that does. I have included all my contact info, feel free to drop me an e-mail or post in the forum.

Allow me to introduce ourselves: Jeff and Jan Hansen. We are the proud owners of an '07 Magna and so far, love it. The only real problem I've encountered is charging the unit where we store it. The coach is all electric and the service at the storage facility is 20 amp.
I know the unit wants 30 or 50 amp service, so all I really want to do is get a trickle charge going to maintain the batteries. CC told me to shut off all the breakers with the exception of the main 50 amp breaker and the inverter circuits. After turning off the breakers, reduce the current on the inverters to 5 or 10 amp. I do this and I still pop the circuit breaker at the storage lot.
Is there a solution to my problem?
Yahoo Message Number: 28714 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/28714)
Jeff I would try to secure all large drain systems like CC says. At the same time run your gen till the batts are topped in the float stage. The charge rate would seem to be a lot less than 20 amps. I believe the gen will take priority on power to the systems. Check your manual. Plug in the 20 amp while the gen is running. This should not change anything and certainly not pop the breaker. Shut down the gen and see if the 20 amp plug in takes over. My thought's are, if the batts are down even a small amount, then the charge system hits the batts very hard for a short period of time, so pop's the breaker. If the system is fully charged ...... Make certain the 20 amp breaker is OK. Might try another plug on a different breaker just for quick check.

Hi,
We just picked up (Wednesday the 26th of September) a new 2008 Intrigue. We took a factory delivery and are currently in Newport, OR for our maiden voyage. It has been pouring rain most of the time.
We traded in a 2006 Allure 470.
No major problems yet but we do have a strange sound in the steering column.
I've heard others have had the same noise and CC said it was "nothing?"
Tomorrow (Wednesday 3rd of October) we go back to Junction City to have them tweak the few things we have encountered.
We are from Southern California, Yorba Linda with a alternate home in Hilton Head South Carolina (mainland, not the island). We travel with 3 schnauzers, our babies.
Thanks,

We will be back in HHI on the 23rd of October. Lynn leaves for a hunting trip to South Dakota on the 24th returning on the 28th.
We will look you up after that. we will be on the east coast until after the New Year.

I could make the noise go away if I "telescoped" the wheel to a different position. I can't for the life of me remember the official name, but they replaced a spring in the wheel and the noise went away.

We picked up our new Inspire Founders Edition on the 21st at the factory. I think we met you, we were heading our for our shakedown when you were coming in (I think our Abbey the Yorkie met your pooches). We didn't have any major problems, and haven't encountered any odd noises. We went to Florence, and had sporadic rains there. Our tweaking only took 2 days - we're heading west now, and will be in Boise ID tomorrow for 2 days before making our way to Denver for our son's wedding. Happy trails!

I just traded my Monaco Dynasty for a CC Magna. I am hoping this group will be a resource for information about the operation and maintenance of my coach.
I recently retired after 30 years with Idaho Power Company. My background is in electrical systems and control. Many years ago I owned and operated a fleet of 18 wheelers licensed in 9 states so I have a limited knowledge of the mechanical systems of a coach.
I look forward to learning about my new coach from the group.

Welcome to the board! I hope you will like your coach as much as we love ours. CC makes a great coach. Their Dynomax Chassis, fit-and- finish and overall quality are hard to beat (IMO). Yes, like all coaches, there may be problems. But it's hard to expect perfection with these complex machines, no matter who makes them. If you have any questions, there are many good folks here that are more than willing to help. You can also count on CC's tech support 800#. Hi experience old timers of the road,
My spouse and I just retired and wisely invested in a 2008 Allure 470, number 31658. We bought it in July when Diesel in San Diego CA hit $4.95 a gallon. We could have lost that money in the stock market.
We have 5k mile on the coach of which 2000 were on it when we got it and 2000 more put on it taking back to Junction City. Junction City is not a Happy Place right now.
We do like our Coach but we also have experienced problems with our dealer service. I am running on my web site, www.dentalduo.com , an anthology of the experience an invite other to share or advise as they be able to help us get the land yacht underway-safely.

I have been talking to Louie C about ordering a new coach but it is down the road a little, sometime in the spring. We currently have an 07 Phaeton and want to fulltime if we can sell our our stick house here in LA (thats Lower Alabama). Hi Tom
In my opinion, CC made some of the most excellent motorhomes. However, they got caught up in the spirit of publicly traded company growth targets and tried to make too many units too fast across a broad spectrum of price ranges challenging their company capability for quality control and net profit.
The end result is the current bankruptcy which is ongoing and does not appear to be gaining ground for a clean exit.
While I want the Company to continue in business, one would have to be very cautious in purchasing a new motorhome from them in their fragile condition. The after purchase support would be questionable in my mind.
However, there are some really good prices on preowned units in the current market that represent a great value. I am not sure which of those might have your bath and a half setup.

It is good that you do not have to make a purchase decision quickly. Hopefully by Spring much of this legal stuff will either be ended or a course will be better know at that time.
Then you should know if the current management will remain in place or if the assets, intellectual property, and brand name, etc. was sold off to other investors. If the current company goes under, the remaining inventory will probably be relatively cheap in that there will be no follow-on warranty support structure and the coaches will be sold "as-is".
If they do go under, I hope that a new Country Coach would surface because Country Coach has had one of the very best structural designs in the industry and their overall manufacturing processes have been very good. We've had our coach for 9 years and still love it. Currently there are some good bargains out there, but the question of warranty support looms large.

Given the news from Bankruptcy Court, if I were in your shoes and really wanted in Inspire Vence, or other bath and a half CC, I would look at what is out there right now for sale. I notice that Guaranty RV in Coburg has 9 2008 CC's for sale at drastically reduced prices and one is a bath and a half Magna. You will of course have to purchase a very good extended warranty as there is none on the 2008 models, but the savings may make up the difference.

Tom,
This site is a great source of information. Some of the more common problems you need to search for include, PTO, Radiator, Paint/fiberglass bonding, fogged windows and bankruptcy. They are all something you need to be aware of when looking at a new or used CC.
I used to ask mechanics that worked on our previous coach, what was the best coach. CC usually was mentioned as one of the best. When I asked why they liked CC, they usually mentioned quality of construction and technical support. They thought it was important to be able to call the company and get some help working through a problem. All CC owners have lost that support, perhaps forever.
As an example, our current situation shows how this lack of support could ruin your day/week or month. We have slide problems in Little Rock and have been here for two weeks trying to get parts. Power Gear, the manufacturer of the parts, will only sell the parts through it's local dealer, Camping World. Power Gear requires dealers to only communicate with them by FAX or e-mail, no phone calls. We have a broken shaft, which was ordered two weeks ago. Power Gear has a policy that says to allow four to five days for them to get it in the mail. I paid extra to get it overnight. The shipment arrived seven days after it was ordered and when we opened the box, we found a motor, not the shaft we requested. Campers World notified them of the mistake by e-mail. Power Gear agreed to overnight the shaft at their expense. Which they did, unfortunately, they sent it to Campers World corporate headquarters in Kentucky. It took another day to get the part to Little Rock. That afternoon a mechanic removed the old shaft and noticed the new shaft had a different shaft to gear design. After more e-mails to Power Gear , Camping World found out you need to order a new type of gear when you order a new shaft. We ordered a new gear by e-mail , but we don't know when it will arrive, because Power Gear won't answer Fridays e-mail, till, maybe, Monday.
Yes, there is a little angst. Good thing I've got spell check, Angst is not a word I usually use for how I feel about this situation. We are on our way to Florida from the West Coast. Hope to get there this year.

If I was in the market for a new rig and could get a real deal (don't see why you couldn't negotiate avery sweet deal direct from the factory) I would go for it...would just need to not count on any warranty service if things go south.
Yahoo Message Number: 53066 (http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Country-Coach-Owners/conversations/messages/53066)
Hi Tom,
If you purchase a new 2009 CC from a dealer, a lot of the OEM equipment warranties would start at the time you purchased the coach. Many dealers sell a extended warranty for 5 or 7 years plus you can purchase a rider to cover what CC would cover for the first year. Depending on the deal, you would be several 10's of thousand dollars ahead. Extended warranties are a large profit center for dealers, so the cost can be negotiable up to a few thousand dollars, or purchased from another dealer.

We have an '06 Inspire with a 400 Cat that has no whine and there is no grinding noise in the steering. The salesman wants to sell a unit that has some issues at your expense. I would have it checked out at a reputable mechanic or Cat dealer or look for a different Inspire. You might even ask if there are some folks who have some for sale here. Then you would know the issues that exist on the unit. Don't let it reflect badly on all Inspire's as we love ours.

Good morning Mac,
Is the steering noise when you turn the steering wheel full throw in either direction, or just driving slowly?
If it is the former, I have experienced on a few occasions a slight chattering in the steering wheel as it comes to the stops. It was examined by CC under warranty and declared normal.
I would not call it a noise, and certainly not a grinding noise. You feel it in the steering wheel.
Has anyone else experienced that particular characteristic?

I purchased my CC about a year ago and was pleased to find a group of owners to share questions, concerns, ideas, etc. I own a 2000 Intrigue, 36'. Had a few problems over the last year with condensation leaking inside the air/heat pump units and most recently the transfer switch had to be replaced.
Looking for information on specs for correct dimensions from center axle to bottom frame when adjusting the ride height control valves. I understand there are 2 on the rear and 1 on the front - not sure what the correct measurements should be or how difficult it would be to adjust. The CC leans slightly downward on the driver's side. Any information relative to the 2000 intrigue specs for this problem would be appreciated.

Hello,
My husband and I just became proud owners of a 2004 CC Inspire just a week a half ago! We took our shake down cruise last weekend! Thank goodness we went camping with our long time RV friends who are motor home owners. It was really overwhelming to learn about all the bells and whistles of our new (to us) RV! They were a big help to us! We have actually been RVing for about 15 years. However, we have owned3 different 5th wheel trailers, never a MH before.
We did some research before we actually bought our CC and discovered it had 6 recalls. My husband is somewhata diesel mechanic (he operates and works on heavy equiptment). He inspected the coach throughly and also made sure each and every one of the recalls had been completed.
We would like to know if there any other known inherited issues with the 2004 CC Inspire? Thanks for your help!

I am a new member, please be kind :-) If I am breaking any protocols please let me know. Thx
My husband and I have been RVing for 15 years and have owned 3 different 5th wheels in the past. We have always dreamed of owning a motor home.
I am happy to say that we are the proud owners of a new (to us) 2004 Country Coach Inspire, a dream come true! We bought our coach on August 9th and took her out for our shake down cruise the following weekend!
Of course we found all sorts of minor things that we need to take care of, but that is to be expected of a coach that is 9 years old! All in all, it is in excellent condition, inside and out! It had 17,348 miles on it when we drove it off the broker's lot.
Now for my question. Are there any inherited issues or problems with the 2004 Country Coach Inspire that we should be aware of?
We did an internet search and found 6 recalls on our coach and were able to verify that all 6 recalls have been completed!
Thank you all for your help!

Judy,
First of all, Welcome to the group and congratulations on your purchase. CC's aren't perfect, and none are, but they're among the best coaches on the road for the most part.
I'll let other Inspire owners address your query about Inspire specific issues, but I can offer couple of things.
1) The coach has very low miles for a 9 year old.......If the tires are original, they should be replaced for safety reasons. 7 years is generally considered the max life for tires that carry the kind of weight your coach represents. They'll do a lot of damage and risk serious injury if one were to blow.
2) Forum etiquette dictates that your posts will include your name, coach serial #, year, model and possibly the engine make and HP. This make it easier for other owners to chime in with answers that may be model and year specific. You'll find all kinds of equipment serial #'s inside the medicine cabinet door.
Hope this helps a little. Have fun and enjoy.

Thanks Dave,
We are well aware about the tire replacement and currently getting pricing on replacing all tires on our coach. We had a bad experience with a blown tire on a previous RV, a 5er. It blew before it was almost 5 years old (it's recommened tires be replaced on a 5er or TT @ 5 yrs). What a mess that tire made of the side of our 5er when it blew! Thank you again for you input and advice on the forum etiuette.

Judy,
Has anyone made you aware of the tire program thru FMCA? It is worth looking into.

I bought my tires through FMCA and saved over $3,000

Yes, Mike we are aware of that program through an RV friend. My husband has a friend in the biz who is getting some prices for us. We will compare pricing. Thanks for your info :-) Judy

I will be getting tires in a couple of weeks and have been told that it is cheaper for the FMCA members than what the dealer pays for them. Having this done at Henderson's and I will post the results on here.
