We are experiencing power loss while driving...had a new King Control installed last Thursday by Cummins shop and thought that was the trouble..came home...stopped and started to drive again after repair job and power was gone again...will drive maybe 35 miles per hour with no acceleration...checked fuel filter, accelerator wiring, and whatever else Cummins checked while it was there...does anyone have a problem such as this that has been solved...we go back tomorrow morning with a phone call tied to Cummins and CC tech Jory...and King Control and Cummins...what do you all suggest?

Check your exhaust brake operation. That would definitely put a major hurt on your power. And it could be intermittent depending on the reason. You can disconnect it easily from underneath to test, if you don't mind getting a little dirty. Can explain further if you are interested.
Is that an ISC or a C8.3?

that's what we thought...ordered and replaced old with a new one...still a problem.. any more solutions....

John, I discussed the Pacbrake possibiliy with Huey since I had that problem with a 2000 Intrigue I owned, but he is not getting the tell-tale black smoke you get with a stuck butterfly valve in a Pacbrake when you try to accelerate.

Hi Huie,
The power loss you are experiencing is more than likely caused by the clutch inside the King Cruise control slipping. This will cause the throttle on the engine to suddenly release as you apply pressure to the throttle pedal to increase speed.
With the engine stopped, reach into the engine compartment on the right hand side of the engine to locate the throttle linkage at the fuel injector pump. Push the throttle linkage forward. Does it resist movement? Does it feel a little stiff? This is not uncommon, and can be readily solved by liberally lubricating the throttle linkage with WD40 or similar. Don't forget to lubricate the throttle shaft as it enters the fuel pump body.
This should resolve your problem!

well, the Cummins people said our loss of power was from a engine kill switch malfunction.
We will see how this reacts until tomorrow...we are due to leave for Colorado on Thursday so I guess we had better hope this was the trouble after a new cruise control and everything else checked...we should be able to "go"...thanks for all your help that arriver over night..

The relay for the engine kill switch can cause trouble on a coach of your vintage, but it will cause the engine to stop, and you will have difficulty getting it to restart until the problem is resolved.
My understanding is that you were simply losing throttle, and that your coach was still drivable albeit slowly with the engine at idle.
If this is the case, then I would make sure the throttle linkage is well lubricated.
Just FYI, the aforementioned relay is located right next to the engine kill switch in the upper right corner of the engine compartment rear access door. I would advise anyone to replace this inexpensive relay if their coach is more than a few years old. Don't want to have anyone stranded because of a $5 part:) Current coaches with electronically controlled engines do not use this relay, however they still have a kill switch.

I own a 1998 Intrigue and had a king failure-had it replaced at Lazy Days and they did not properly adjust the throttle cable. Had that repaired and later (1 year ago),i lost my cruise control. to fix that i had a shop replace the cruise stick on steering column and another King control-again the shop didn't adjust throttle cable properly and everything i had done still didn't fix my problem. It wasn't untill the spring rally in tenn. when Country Coach factory techs found and adjusted the cable and "Programed the stick" It could be you may need to have the factory take a look at yours.

thanks Larry, we hope it is fixed with the new one and a new kill switch which the Cummins folks said yesterday was the problem...going on test runs today again...will keep the suggestions in mind as we leave on a trip to Colorado on Thursday...thanks again, everyone Huie
