I know this has been discussed before, but the search engine here is so poor I can't find the discussion. My CC manual calls for a 6000 mile oil change interval but as I understand it, Cummins specifies something like 12,000 or once per year. This is the 325 and it holds about 25 quarts of oil. Specified weight is 15w40.
Also, as I understand it, due to the build up of oxidants and other stuff in the oil, there's no real reason to use synthetic because it won't last any longer than the regular stuff. But it might improve performance? What about sythetic blends?

I go 10,000 miles between changes. Personally, I'd use what the manufacturer recommends....who knows better? Synthetic isn't cheap either. I use the Shell Rotella T 15w40. It makes a huge difference over the Delo-400 in my Ford Powerstroke engine so I use it in my Cummins too.
I tried using synthetic in one of my racing motors (super comp dragster).....it actually slowed the car down. That was enough for me.
