We just bought a new country coach Intrigue. It has a CAT 505 engine in it and we have black exhaust by the end of each day on the coach from the exhaust pipe - is anyone else having the same problems with this engine???

Thank you

I have the same problem with a Cummins engine on a 2000 Intrigue....I am now at Cummins center in Denver and will meet with Cummins District Field Engineer tomorrow to try and determine what will be done to fix this. My coach has had this problem from day 1 and CC and Cummins have been unable to come up with a fix, they both point at the other as the source of the problem. I have had it to numerous Cummins facilities and most of them tell me it is the CAC but that has already been replaced twice, the turbo has been replaced twice and CC just tested the system and tell me that the air system is ok....This will be the first time I have actually had a Cummins Employee (rather than a distributor/service center employee) take a look at the problem. My suggestion to you is to go to CC and stay there until they fix the problem, once your one year warranty is up they probably will not do much for you, at least that has been my experience.

Thanks for letting us know. The CAT 505 has also been a problem from day 1. Country Coach has sent it to CAT and they did some "fine tuning" on it, but it still leaves the black (we just drove it 90 miles and it is again turning black at the back). CAT said they have this problem even with the trucks that have this engine and are "working" on the problem. They said it shouldn't cause any concern to just keep driving it and when they find how to fix it they will let us know!!! If it is a problem I think we should be concerned - where there is smoke there is a chance of fire I'd think.

Again, Thanks for letting us know others have the same type of problem.

The new C13 doesn't do much better either. I have been at the factory for two weeks watching for smoke and all the cats do. TWI

Interesting the new Cat Engines smoke. We have a bit of ssmoke on start-up, but then no visible smoke at all after that, and we have 106,000 miles on our 3176B.

Hi All, I guess I will put in my two cents worth. I have a C13 and it blew black smoke for the first 2 or 3k miles and now it is ok. I have driven 8800 miles and it is not smoking. Dale Hollick 05 Affinity 6370

Hi,

I'm surprised to hear this, we haven't seen any signs of this problem. We have about 28000 miles on our '03 Magna with the CAT C12 505 engine.
