I'm thinking of taking Colorado 139 from I-70 up to US 40 on the way from Moab, UT to Vernal UT. Anyone know of any issues for a large coach & toad? Thanks for any info.

About 25 miles north of I-70 you will run into a steep climb. We went that way in 2000 in our 34-foot gas coach with no toad. That part of the raod has switchbacks, and while I think you could navigate with your coach, it would depend on how comfortable you would be with a steep drop-off on one side. If I remember right, we climbed around 3000 feet on that climb. Once you get on top, the rest of the way is no problem. They werre widening it when we passed that way, so it should be even better now. Just make sure your cooling system works OK--you'll be doing 10-15 MPH a good part of the time!

Go to Camping World and buy the Truckers Mountain book. It will give you all the information you need on all the mountain roads so you don't have to guess or take someone elses opinion. I would not be without this valuable book if your going to drive a mh out west.

Thanks for the reference to the book. If you have that book, can you tell me what it says for Utah 139...I'm a long ways from a Camping World. But I will look for it next time I'm there. Thanks.

You may have this info by now but here is what my mountain CD says:

(on Colorado Highway 139 north of Grand Junction, CO)
The summit of Douglas Pass is about 38 miles south of Rangely, Colorado and about 35 miles north of I-70. The summit is about milepost 35. The northbound descent from the summit is about 3 miles of steady 7-8% grade with 20, 25, and 30 mph curves.
The southbound descent from the summit is almost 6 miles of 6-8% grade with 25 mph speed limit and numerous 15 mph curves and switchbacks. About 2½ miles down from the summit there is a 1/8 mile section of 10 or 12% grade. After the 6 miles of 6-8% there are several miles of 4% grade.}}
