Any suggestions for good campgrounds around New Orleans? Any really bad ones that I should avoid?

Bob, I just returned from N. O. and stayed at the KOA West. I'm not a big fan of KOA, but this one is OK. It's fairly handy to I-10 and is in a quiet area. I had no problem getting 50 amp elec.service. I would recommend reservations.

We stayed in Fairview River State Park and found it terrific. It's across Lake Ponch, but convenient to N'awlins. The park has an "inner area" that has more trees (pruned high..no problem, but narrow entry roads might be a problem.) The area nearer the river is more open, so it just depends on the size of your rig. We loved it.
Gorgeus area.
Enjoy...

We stayed at Riverview once and swore we wouldn't go back because of the narrow entry across a pretty deep ditch. This was several years ago, and we had a '97 Intrigue with the solid front axle, so IFS might make it easier. If you are willing to go across the lake ( the causeway is 24 miles long )I recommend Fontainbleu State Park in Mandeville. It's nothing special, but very reasonable. They have a few 50amp slots. They recognize Golden Age Passports, so the rate is less than $ 10.00 per night. MY daughter lives in Mandeville and we use Fontainbleu very often.
I should mention I crossed Lake Ponchartrain last week and I'm pretty sure I saw that the toll for a rig with tag plus a car is now $15.00. They only charge it going toward New Orleans, and it's free coming back.
