Our new 05 Magna 6382 came with 2 factory installed Sat receivers and the new KVH A-5 flat antenna. It is the worst I have ever had a chance to use, comparing it to Kingdome and Datron. Even with dew on it no picture and many times it took the time for 2 cocktails to get a picture and when it finally comes signal strength is in the 50's. I have asked CC for a change. So far no response. KVH says the A-5 system is form SUVs and vans.
Any experiences to be shared in making it work better or having it replaced. Cal Thorne said he has replaced others with the TracStar.

Trac Star is by far the best!

John;
We deleated the KVH system from our '05 Magna and had Cal install a MotoSat HDTV Executive antenna, and Motosat Nomad HD Controller and an RCA DTC210 HD reciever. Works like a champ, and is not impacted by moisture like domes and the KVH flat antenna. We give up the over-the-road capability, but have excellent High Definition TV (when and where available) The RCA reads the Off-Air Digital and Analog signals from the TV antenna and the analog signals from the cable TV connection. It then integrates those channels into the DirecTV menu, so we can jump directly from off-air to cable to satellite in any order. The RCA menu clearly displays the source and type of signal, i.e.; "Digital HD Satellite". You can also tell you have HD as a green LED lights on the reciever when on a HD channel. Presently, the menu defaults to "Regularily Scheduled Programming" when showing Off-Air or Cable channels, but this may change with the greater band-with of HD systems.
Now we are working with Mito to get the universal remote macro and programming so that we don't nedd both remotes to watch TV!

I have had the TracStar for over 5 years & it works great MOST times, however it is affected by rain or heavy dew. If you don't require in-motion antenna I would go with a Moto-Sat high definition antenna that has a 3 head LNB & covers all viewing situations. It gives you better signal strength & works much better in rainy conditions.

John,
Our sat system works well on our coach #6425. We have been in one or 2 hurricane style rain storms where we had to shut it down but we don't live or die by the tv so we just put on a DVD till the thing clears. I like the low profile, it looks better on the coach and it fixs in our garage. If we were to put a kingdome on with this tall coach we would hit our garage door which is 14 ft. And right now we need it because we will be in the eye of Jeane at midnight tonight. We have been putting coaches in vacant house garages all day getting ready for the storm. I think CCI went to this sat. because of the high roof. I have though about putting Rainex on the dome to see if that keep the water off but have not tried that yet. Waiting till New Orleans to ask.
One problem we have had with the TV is that the bolts that hold the 32 inch in place have been loosing up which makes the TV rattle Lazy Days fixed that last week.

I have had a Hughes satellite receiver for years and prefer them to RCA or others. The 2000 Intrique I'm getting has a KVH - SA dish, which doesn't connect with my Hughes, even with the serial data port adapter. Does anyone know if Hughes has a model that does work with this KVH? Dan

Dan, it is my understanding that the KVH receiver is the controller for the antenna. That is one reason the receivers are so expensive. Why dont you call or email Jack Kelly at KVH, he is the customer service manager.
Hope this helps, Candace

Hi Dan ... We bought a 2002 Intrigue that also has the older KVH-SA dish and after several frustrating attempts with Sony and RCA receivers (they worked but very slowly and with what I considered to be an awkward user interface), I located a Hughes receiver that works beautifully and has the necessary "data port" on the back. It's the Hughes Model GCEBO which is fast and has an easy operating interface. I was lucky in finding a brand new one even though this model is a couple years old. But if you go to eBay, you can find one and I highly recommend it. ( I just checked eBay and there is one and only one listed ... for $60 ... I'd say it's worth it.) If you want to discuss any of this, e-mail me and I'll call you and we can chat about more details. Or if you have my cell number, give me a call.
Big "Hi" to Sue.
Steve
PS. If you or anyone else want a Sony SAT-B55 DSS receiver that will work with the KVH-SA dish, let me know. It's in perfect working condition and includes the remote and is packed in the original carton. I bought it on eBay for $60 earlier this year and as I said above, I wasn't happy with the user interface (but that's me) since I was accustomed to the old Hughes receiver in my previous coach. I packed it back up and never got around to selling it. I'll send it to anyone for $30 including shipping.
