Hi Folks,
Now that the out of state period has increased - it makes no difference; it is important to understand that avoidance will not work if you intend for your coach to stay in Califonia permanently.
California tax avoidance is only temporary. The important thing to understand is your intend - if you state to the BOE, after going through the receipt drill to prove you were out of state for the required period, that your vehicle is a temporary situation and you are intending on moving to another state in the future, then you can avoid the sales tax.
The above statement is a carefully researched and is based on several documented cases.

-Fred, this has not been the case for us. Since 1998, we have purchased two coaches, taken delivery out of state but registered them in Calif. In each case, BOE came back at us for taxes, but when we provided proof that the coach was used out of state for 90 days the file was closed.
