Title: Chirping LP gas detector

I have either lost or was never furnished a manual for my LP gas detector. It started " chirping" lately and has become progressively worse, but no hint of a gas leak can be detected by the nose. I seem to remember from a much earlier coach this was a sign of a weak battery and that the battery included the sensor as an integral unit.
Before I go off and buy the battery assembly I would appreciate info from anyone else who has had this problem.

Thanks,

Walt:

When mine chirps, after my wife has squirted it with the Swifter, I just shut it off, wait a few minutes, turn it back on, and its OK. Mine doesn't have a battery.

I'll look for the manual tomorrow.

Walt, our detector would chirp once in awhile, or so I thought, and it kept getting worse. I even took it out so I could take it to the mfg. The chirp continued and that led me to the smoke detector! I was a sonar tech in the Navy and have very good hearing but this thing had me fooled. I was down on all fours listening to the detector and swore that it was doing the chirping. Our detector is hard wired to the coach and does not have its own battery. One thing you could try is to remove the detector and blow the sensor area out with compressed air. We don't have a manual either but I found the mfg info on tag when I removed the unit.

Don and Chuck, thanks for the info. The noise is definitely from the LP gas detector as it stops when the unit is turned off. I'll contact the mfg. to see what they recommend, if I can get their phone no. from CC.

Thanks again,

Walt,

If you still need, or want, the "manual" I just uploaded it to the files section. I think the smoke detector is a good bet for the chirping..... and it's easier to check out.

Dick, I don't find the manual in the files. Could it have gone astray, or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Voila----I think I found the problem. The unit had shut down completely on the way home and had to run generator to keep fridge working. I found both wires on the solonoid at the LP gas tank were loose. Tightened them and the unit seems to be working properly--- won't know for sure until next trip as problem was only occuring while traveling.

Hi Walt,

I had the same problem - I tinned the leads with solder, reattached them and gooked the terminals with RTV. The whole harness was loose - secured it with plastic tie wraps.

Walt

We have been having the same problem. Our local repair guy even replaced the LP detector (for $81 plus labor) but the condition persists. After your post we went out and tried the connection at the solenoid. One of them came right off with no effort at all. We think we have that corrected. We will take the coach out for a run in a few days to see if it is fixed.
We are in your debt for the tip.
