I have a friend with a Jake problem, 2000 Affinity C-12 Cat. Seems when engine is cold with the Jake brake on, and you accelerate into 2nd gear and let off the accelerator and then accelerate, the engine shutters and will blow out black smoke. I thought there was a group member with the same problem and had the fix??

Fred:

Your friend should check page 4 of the Jake Brake Manual. It says that the Jake Brake should not be engaged until the engine warms up because it depends on the free flow of engine oil.
