Terry was sitting on the entry step while I switched on the ignition. The entry step dumped her on the ground.
I should have remembered that step was way too active & would retract when key turned.

As installed, the step moves at least 10 times for each time it should move.
How can I modify it to retract only when door is closed while engine is turning?

That's the way it was in the 90's and you should have heard all the griping and complaining about people knocking off their steps or bending the rails.
I had to replace my rear rail twice, because the door closure switch was intermittent and the steps didn't pull in and the panel light was out. I hit a plastic 50 gal orange & red warning barrel and the second time an electrical stanchion in an RV park. I got so I could drop the steps and replace or straighten the rails in an hour and a half. Don't know what bent the rails the 3&4th time; but, I was able to save the rails.
